RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

I put in analog stick support for Tyrquake and Doom but the problem is that our console ports don’t really have RETRO_DEVICE_ANALOG implemented yet, so I had to comment it out again since the controls will be broken if analog is not properly implemented or hooked up.

So it’s something for the next point releases I guess.

Anyway, I wasn’t really satisfied with the twin stick controls I set up for Quake and Doom up until now - I might revisit that in time.

@Squarepusher, can DIP switch for FBA core be mplemented for the next point release?

I was dabbling with some of that before this release but it’s still commented out because I couldn’t figure out how to make it work for core options right now.

I will have to talk to maister some more about that.

Also, I really want to also take that opportunity to fix save state load/saving once and for all - that is also something I want to discuss with maister since i saw some functions with public scope that do state load/saving - only thing that should be done there is make sure it’s not file I/O based and then I believe it should finally work.

Is the gameboy filter available for retroarch wii because im not finding the option to use it

No, I don’t know where you got that idea.

The Wii is using a fixed-function GPU (more or less DirectX 7 featureset). Even though it has some proprietary TEV engine that is the equivalent of TNT recombiners - it is impossible to run the type of fragment and vertex programs on it that are possible on Xbox 360 and PlayStation3.

Shaders are only available on the following platforms (the systems that have GPUs with a programmable pipeline):

  • PlayStation3
  • Xbox 360
  • PC (Windows/Mac/Linux)
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Blackberry

If Wii U ever gets ‘jailbroken’ and we can make native programs on it, it would be possible to use shaders there as well.

I had some problems…

  1. Everything is set up in my SD (4GB Kingston)
  2. I load the CPS1 core
  3. I change the screen to 640x448p (it’s perfect for CPS1)
  4. I load a game, like Final Fight, perfectly
  5. If I call the in-game menu and try to load a different game the emulator freezes
  6. I need to turn off/turn on Wii

I tried several different games. First load, OK. Second load, freezes.

Also, Shadow Dancer, on FBA core was running superbly great on v0.8.4. On this version, the game is sluggish.

I tried a completely different SD card. Same results.

Anyone can confirm that? At the moment I am returning back to v0.8.4.

Thanks, guys! C.

This also happens for me, loading any CPS1 game after playing one immediately freezes the console on the “Info - Loading…” screen.

Yes that feature was useful for crt users.

Please reintroduce.

It is not needed because there is an ‘Custom Aspect Ratio’ option instead.

Good thing the ‘Load Game History list’ now allows you to switch between games then in case reentrant ROM loading doesn’t allways work out on system with very limited RAM (like Wii), huh?

Anyway, I’ll look into the CPS1 core.

Aaah!

I was not aware about the utility of this feature. I will check it later. I was thinking it was just a way to keep track (informatively only) of all games you have been playing.

Regards, C.

Hi I am having problems trying to get this to work upon launching it on the HBC I get a black screen that just sits there doing nothing. My Wii remote turns off when that happens. Is this a known bug or something? Would love to get it to work but can’t figure out what to do.

Thanks for the info! 4 CPS1 games successfully loaded in a row from the History List without having the console freeze.

OK, I have not tried it again, but how this “Load Game History” works? Is brings a list of games previously opened?

What if I want to load a game not yet opened? Not yet played? I am confused (and away from my Wii now to perform the tests…)

C.

Yup, brings up a list of previously played games and even switches to the correct core for you when you select which one you wanna play. Of course you can’t play a game you haven’t loaded before since it wouldn’t be on the History list to begin with :stuck_out_tongue:

I am having the same issue with HDD not being detected :frowning:

It’s a WD My Passport Essential 500GB. Will revert to previous release.

Menu looks great with the nested options, much more clean and user friendly, and this is coming from an instructional designer/technical writer!

OK, as soon as ToadKing gets back we’ll ‘ninja update’ RetroArch Wii with the SNES9x speed regressions and the USB compatibility regressions fixed.

Thanks a million. Really looking forward to testing out the new game history, Cave Story and all the other great new features.

thanks for the work and seen one thing is that the super hang on not working the turbo button is a shame because the game is perfect

Glad to hear it
