RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

IV and VI are pretty good with a couple of fan patches from Romhacking. I have Sound Restoration and Font Enhancement applied to both and Color Restoration added to VI which brings both to about the same level as the SNES versions visually and audio wise. Plus you get the benefit of the newer translations. VI still has some slowdown though.

The port was rushed and suffered as a result, but SquarePusher’s right, the old ones just feel more at home, it’s what I grew up on. But as the other results, simply amazing. Can’t wait to try it out! Final Fantasy V didn’t have it as bad as VI did, and the translation is very good, but the music is the worst offender  Still, this is gonna be sweet!

I’ve been wanting to replay Vi for a while now, and I think I’ve settled on playing the SNES romhack Stand Guard. Apparently it’s stays pretty true to Woolsey’s translation except in parts where Slattery’s was superior (ie, I assume Celes’ cliff scene).

Anyway, you guys have pretty much obliterated any reason I ever had to want an Ouya. The GBA was the last system I would’ve really liked to have emulated well on the Wii and it seems like it’s going in that direction now.

Hey Squarepusher, can you test the following:

Iridion 1 and 2 gradius galaxies star-x

I remember having slowdown with both iridion games… cant remember if gradius galaxies and star-x ran well or not.

also like Charco askes already “Will the MAME 0.78 core be added to the next release for Wii too?” ?

Iridion 2 especially had major slowdowns whenever there were enemies on the screen (some parts of the levels had a break, so it almost ran full speed). Iridion 3D ran pretty well except when you reached the sky levels.

Squarepusher, I got a question: any chance Boktai games will ever run at full speed, or close to it? Or are the ROMs too large/full of effects to achieve that?

Both Boktai games crashdump right now at startup with VBA Next. Probably due to missing sensor stuff. I will investigate this after the release of 0.9.9.7.

Iridion 1 - Fullspeed Iridion 2 - 35fps at game selection screen, around fullspeed (lowest 56/57fps) ingame - crashdumps at level 2 though Gradius Galaxies - Fullspeed Star-X - Fullspeed level 1, level 2 mostly fullspeed as well though some minor drops to 57fps here and there depending on heavy polygon geometry. Konami Wai Wai Racing Advance - Fullspeed

Cool, thanks for letting me know  Looking forward to using the new version of VBA Next!

Hey squarepusher, did you have any luck figuring out the input issues? I know you previously mentioned that you wouldn’t release another version until they were sorted out.

Tested both with the VBA Next compiled today on Windows with the solar sensor bypass patches and those both work, so that’s probably it. Those are nice since they allow you to change the amount of sunlight manually with button combinations.

There’s a third Boktai game as well, although I believe if Boktai 1 and 2 ever get to work, there shouldn’t be a reason why the JP-only Shin: Bokura no Taiyou - Gyakuushu no Sabata shouldn’t work… Right?

Hello! First of all, thanks for the great work on Retroarch. I own all three consoles and I can say the Wii version is my favorite one because of the multiple resolutions, which makes the gaming experience very faithful to the original. Looking forward to next release. Just a question: will it be possible in the future to overcome the wii RAM memory limitation for some NEO GEO roms? I say that because there´s a Neo Geo emu on PSP which uses cache files in order to do that. Sorry bothering you with that question, that´s because I love Retroarch so much. Thanks for your time!

Hej guys!

I just found out that there is a 0.9.9-fix1 version for download. What does this ‘fix’ cover? I don’t see nothing mentioning it on the changelog.

retroarch-gx-wii-v0.9.9-fix1.zip

Regards, G.

There was a little issue when .9.9 was first released. The fix was released a day or two later. That was in May I think

Thanks, JM…

But now I don’t know which release I am using. I was pretty active here hunting for news at the time. Maybe I have got the first one!

I will check…

If I understand Squarepusher’s recent posts, there is a new version coming out soon, including the new VBA Next core?

Yeah… the v0.9.9.7 will include an improved VBA Next Core with better compatibility with a lot of GBA roms.

But I don’t know if the “mame core” that exists in other ports of RetroArch will be included in v0.9.9.7 release for the Wii version.

I’m waiting for this, but anyway… Squarepusher is doing an awesome job with this emu.

Thanks.

Yeah, it’s pretty freakin’ awesome!

I cross my fingers for the Mame core…
