RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

In previous versions we had to have neogeo.zip in the same folder as the ROM (bit of a pain for me as I wanted all the correct game titles to display instead of the ROM name so created separate folders for each game with a bios file in each folder, I know, I am OCD!). Not sure why we couldn’t but the bios in the System foder like we do for syscard3.pce and the Mega CD bios files. Maybe FBA works differently to those emulators.

Version 1.1 will be released today for Wii and it will have FBA fixed. The problem was that we made a full FBA build this time instead of removing the CPS1/CPS2/Neogeo/PCE/MD drivers from the full build - this made the FBA binary into 35MB which is a bit too large for Salamander to load in/out.

So things are now back to what they were before.

Wonderful! Thanks for all your efforts

hi members , im having a little trouble with .cfgs not working right ill explain below…

if i save a config with my preferred Video resolution when i load the config after loading a Core the res is not as i wanted

has anyone else had this problem or can tell me how to fix it ?

I had a similar issue with saving the path for ROMs in each core, it worked when I did this by accessing the RGUI menu after loading a ROM instead of doing it with no game loaded. Maybe this is the same? You could try it anyway.

hi Charco , i just tried your suggestion and it didnt work

thanks for the help though

I am at this very moment testing the PER CORE CONFIG and it is WORKING GREAT! I was even able to use 2 different configs for NeoGeo core — for the infamous 2 screen sizes the system uses — and it is superbly fine!

You need to:

Turn ON RA. Pick your core. (Mandatory!) Make your configs (video, paths, etc). Save it as NEW CFG. RA will save it with the core name on it.

Do it for all your cores. Next time, when you pick up a core, you need to switch from the standard one to the one you saved previously. SIMPLE AS THAT. PERFECT!

And, if you had already a CFG for a core, and you need to correct something, you can just perform your adjustment (while this very CFG is loaded, of course) and it will be saved automatically (function set on by default).

The only bugs I noticed so far are:

— I am not able to set the ANALOG JOY of Classic Controller PRO to work on ANY cores. I would love to play the shmups on PCE using the analog stick.

— CPS1 core need the RA to be restarted everytime I want to change games. RA freezes if I just load a new game over the one already running (but not a problem for me after all… just to inform)

Looking forward for the FBA core! Since we can save multiple CFGs now, it will be A W E S O M E to have many MAME games running on their correct screensizes, like GUN.SMOKE and others!

Thanks guys! Excited a lot! Crying out loud! NEO GEO finally perfect!

hi cospefogo , ive already tried your tips on my own and for me it doesnt work , the res i picked goes back to default 480i with that method.

also before using v1.0.0 i deleted my RA config folder and installed the new one , so i dont think thats part of the problem.

chat soon

Brand new install. It is working for me right now.

I am on LCD TV, default RA settings. Video in 640x480p.

Doing more tests… Will be back soon.

I think I get how it works now, it creates a unique cfg file but this does not automatically boot each time you choose the core but defaults to retroarch.cfg and you can cycle through the files to choose the one you want. Can you name the cfg files to whatever you like? Like NeoGeo1 and NeoGeo2 to have the two different resolutions?

DOING THAT RIGHT NOW AND EVERYTHING WORKING GREAT! Sorry for the caps. Excitement.

I will share my CFGs soon…

That would be great actually, I never know which is the correct aspect and resolution for all the cores.

I everything get working as I am planning, we will have a ton of CFGs for many specific MAME games.

This is great for 2 reasons:

  1. I like having the correct aspect ratio and resolution

  2. I am a lazy prick!

Hi guys! I have been testing the latest release for the past 3 days. I finally managed to get most cores running with custom folders and settings. Only FBA core remains (i use 0.9.9) and TyrQuake which adds dual analog controls but is choppier than the last version, at least on my account.
Virtual boy core is laggy but no need as WiiMednafen has that covered (and it’s a really small library of games anyway). VBA Next is better then 0.9.9 and plays a vast majority of titles full speed! Kudos. CPS2 and Neo geo core now load many games consecutively without the need for manual restart, that’s nice!

I also applaud the implementation of auto detection for controllers, something that i really like in all other wii emus. One small gripe, I use wiimote sideways most of the time and keys are mapped as 1=A, 2=B, B=X and A=Y. I think FBA Y button should be set as wiimote B, since in every single core, it is used far more than FBA X button.

Oh and a minor suggestion for future reference: for the Wonderswan core, could you add a core option to auto rotate the display ( i know rotation is in the video settings already, but something like auto rotation when needed would be easier IMHO, Wiimednafen does it)

Anyways, enough nitpicking, EVERYTHING else works GREAT! Finally all cores are at a point of 99,9999% there.Hearty congratulations on Todking and Squarepusher!

Oh and btw:

This is just over exaration. INo good wii game involves the amount of movement you are saying. Most games involve a little wiggling of the nunchuck or Wiimote, sheesh.

RE4 ? lol only pointing and aoiding in scripted sequences. It;s the best and definitive version. There’s no “super donkey kong” I think you mean Donkey Kong Country returns. Apart from the minor wiggling you have to do, one of the best games of this generation.

If you mean just Dance, well then you would have had a point.[/quote]

Amen. FPS and TPS games, as well as lightgun games and point & click adventures are incredibly satisfying to play with IR aiming. Waggling no no, pointing yeah yeah Also, Just Dance works damn well with the wiimote and succeeds for what it sets out to be.

== EDIT ==

Awesome!!!

Starting all over.

This method of different CFGs is picky. Real picky.

Having the CFGs renamed and in external directory made the files (some of them) to be overwritten by default value and losing some settings.

Very strange.

I will try again now, using a different approach.

Ouch. It was probably meant for one cfg file per core. I think that would be fine for me and I would survive if I had to manually change the resolution of the handful of Neo Geo games that uses a different one.

I still don’t understand why some cores get a .CFG and a .DOL.CFG config files…

Definitely buggy. I am quitting now.

For several times, when everything is finished, the CFGs start to get randomly overwritten by default values right at the moment when a game is loaded.

For example:

  1. VBA CFG is 480x320, perfect, sharp, glorious
  2. I tried several games loading all perfectly under 480x320
  3. However, after going in and out to other cores, suddenly, the very same game that was respecting the VBA.CFG simply loads on default configs and VBA.CFG goes back to all default values.

I keep losing the per-core-cfgs all the time. =(

It could be sooo simple if the emulator could be installed in several parallel instances… =(

Doesn’t seem to work so. Oh well.
