RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

I also would like to report issues with Earthworm Jim Special Edition on Genplus GX 1.7.3 on RetroArch, but not on the standalone emulator; it launches fine on Kega Fusion, Genesis Plus GX (by itself) but fails to load in RetroArch. Not sure why, but I can confirm the dump is clean.
The Genesis Plus GX version that is in RetroArch is bleeding-edge (ie. straight from the repo) and as such they are not merely ‘point releases’. So it could be this was a regression back then and that ekeeke has fixed it since.

Try again when 0.9.9 comes out I’d say - if the issue still persists, I can mention it to ekeeke.
Sounds good to me. Thanks for your hard work for making this port possible, and at full speed on the Wii!

I am very anxious for the PCE Engine controller issues to be fixed! Eager to play Shinobi and other PC Engine classics on my Wii!

=)

Really? I play PCE fast with the wiimote and it plays just fine, didn’t know about that. My only personal issues are with gambatte’s palette for mono GB games (this could EASILY be aleviated by making use of the GBC bios, which has selectable palettes) and GenPlus instability compared to the standalone version. For now, i use GNUboy for mono GB games and GenPlus GX for Sega games.

P.S. The Wii’s internal NAND is much faster than either SD or HDD, one has to compare real nand vs emunand behavior when running Wiiware games or when saving/loading in some games. Also, i remember tuedj speaking highly of NAND usage to ‘‘expand’’ the memory.

Dear nakata6790!

Are you playing PCE without any controlling issues? Me and few other guys have serious problems regarding the PCE controller… The controls are always pressing down or left, and there is no way of playing anything right.

Are you using the latest version?

Regards, C.

What you need to realize is that I ‘sync’ against ekeeke’s bleeding edge SVN/Github repo of Genesis Plus GX. This means that the version you get in RetroArch is oftentimes ‘newer’ than the point releases you get from ekeeke himself in official versions.

This means that any and all ‘compatibility/stability’ issues you get might just be a case of regressions on the core end and nothing to do with RetroArch.

I want to make this clear since quite a few people have mentioned these issues before (one previous time with Lunar 2 not working on RetroArch point release Genplus GX vs. it working on Genplus GX mainline), and what it turned out to be was that it was a regression caused by a commit after the last ‘official version’.

I just want to mention this in case any more FUD starts to develop around RetroArch’s libretro port of Genesis Plus GX - you get exactly what is in ekeeke’s SVN/Github repo - I ‘edit’ exactly nothing in his main code.

I use PCE fast v. 0.9.028. IDR if this is from RA 0.9.8.4 I can’t say for all the library, but i have finished Raiden, Rondo of Blood and New Adventure Island and i had no issues. I use the wiimote sideways as i said (black wiimote plus, to be exact).

@ Squarepusher: First off, please understand (Iwata) that i know it is NOT your fault cause it is an ‘‘imported’’ core, no worries about that. It would be ungrateful and demeaning of me, to imply otherwise. Secondly if this bleeding edge is the reason causing such a difference in the 2 cores’ behaviour (standalone 1.7.3 vs the one in RA) then why not do like you do in SNES 9X Next’s case and stick to the stable release? Lastly (and please note that this is a preferance thing, so it may well not apply to other people), stableness aside, i prefer the standalone version for covers, audio adjustments (bass, filter etc) & control adjustments (like selecting a different perirheral for IR in segments of Snatcher for example) from the menu.

I don’t have the time for that stuff - plus it’s pointless. Ekeeke is eventually going to make those bleeding-edge versions the ‘default’ anyway over time. So you are getting bleeding-edge versions and if something breaks inbetween point releases - then you guys are good ‘beta testers’ for ekeeke by pointing it out to me.

Just try to assume less this is a ‘RetroArch issue’ and try to see if the current bleeding-edge Genesis Plus GX suffers from this too - there is a Win32 build you can build from sources.

If you put it that way, i agree. Just as any reports will have to accompanied with the acknowledgement that the origin of instability is GPGX itself and not RA.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but can you explain the above? What is RA and IDR? And PCE Fast? So, at my understanding, you are using a previous version of Wii RetroArch? Or is it a previous core for PCE?

Thanks! C.

RA = RetroArch. IDR = I Don’t Recall? The PCE Fast core is just a faster version of the normal PCE core, at the cost of being slightly less accurate.

Speaking of VM NAND usage, do u guys think it would help rom loading for PGM and Psykio cores as well as some NEO-Geo games?

I had forgotten about those, would be great to get Knights of Valour running on the Wii.

Like sparklewind correctly said, yes i use the mednafen_pce_fast.dol core. In RA menu, it shows the name PCE fast 0.9.28 Retroarch 0.9.8.4. in the bottom of the screen. If i remember correctly this is the latest version. Anyway, i’ll upload that core here: http://dfiles.eu/files/3wzfjmdac

Dear Nakata!

Thank you so much for your upload. I will replace my current PCE core with this one to check if everything works right.

Really thanks! C.

Cool. Just remember to check with the wiimote sideways controls as well. This is the control method i use.

I’m not sure if it’s possible already. If RA currently has no support for keybinding I say that would be a great to feature to add. Many console fighters allow that to be done from within an in game menu. Is it possible to do so from the service menu of arcade games?

Or we can always get a good old fashioned arcade stick lol.
I actually have two modded arcade sticks.

But some people I play with are only used to controllers.

I cannot find any key binding options in the service menus.

This would be a great feature to add to an already amazing emulator suite.

Is there any potential for N64 emulation via Retroarch Wii? I know support for the system is pretty spotty but I’d figured I’d ask.

We have zero interest in doing ANYTHING anymore for Wii that requires a lot of manual labor - especially when cunts like these in here have the final say and think they’re totally allowed to treat devs like shit and have the last word -

http://gbatemp.net/threads/retroarch-a-new-multi-system-emulator.333126/

So, no but I don’t really feel tempted at all to do jack shit anymore for the pathetic Wii scene, the forum mods (some hillbilly rednecks with Talim hentai pictures as their avatar pic who get a lot of free merchandise and hardware from time to time - none of which can code for shit) who just make assumptions on which posts to remove based on what some dipshit forum regular believes is ‘uncalled for’ (since they can’t ‘read’ the language I posted that reply in they go off ‘assumptions’). It is a tight-knit troupe of clowns that defend each other at every turn and think guys like tuedji/Tantric are ‘gods’ and can do no wrong while they can totally treat me and others (like ToadKing) like a bunch of ‘dipshit guys’ who exist to ‘work for them’ basically and they won’t stop yapping and bitching and complaining. Fuck them - I’d rather spend my time on platforms that actually have a FUTURE (like Android/iOS/Pandora/Blackberry) rather than continue to be around these niche sewer slime console scenes.

Fuck the inbred ‘regulars’ from the ‘console scenes’ like Hielkenator, nintygaming and other idiots. When you don’t want to spend the entire day entertaining their insane delusional fantasies about ‘pixel perfect graphics’ on a system that has a video scaler that ‘distorts’ the graphics from the word go - then you can expect these worms to disown you and start shitstirring about RetroArch everywhere.

You can thank dipshits like Hielkenator, nintygaming and all these clowns for that thread taking that turn there and for me at least having zero motivation to do jack shit anymore - that goes for NAND VM, that goes for N64 or PSX cores targeted at Wii - believe me, if this was all my doing, ToadKing would happily say so - he isn’t too biased and he doesn’t just kiss my ass.

I am really, really sad to read this, Squarepusher! But you should do what you want to do, I agree with you.

So, it means we will never have any other updates? No more? Not a single next one with simple fixes?

Well, thank you so much ~ really ~ for the work so far. Just by being able to play CPS1 in my Wii without the need to turning on my old Xbox1 all the time for it is already a bless.

Keep up the great work! Regards from Brazil! C.

Why listen to a few arseholes on a forum though? There is a big install base of hacked Wii owners and not all of them post on forums but use and enjoy RetroArch.
