Hi guys, Forgive my ignorance of how cores actually work and if someone tells me this already works, I’ll be playing emulators non-stop but can I sync my save state in an emulator like RetroArch with the same core and restore that same save state on a PC or Mac say running OpenEmu with the same core. My example being I just got to level 5 on Zelda on OpenEmu (FCEU core) can I continue playing on my phone thru RetroArch with the same ROM and a sync save state file from OpenEmu??? Please tell me this is possible and I will be so grateful. I am ignorant how save states are done so please excuse if is just plain stupid. Thanks!!!
Savestates might work for that, but they require having exactly the same revision of the core on each device, as any change to the emulator will have the potential to change the emulated machine state and thus make the savestate image invalid. In-game SRAM saves should be fine, though, as they’re non-volatile.
Does this also mean that updating RetroArch may/will break existing save states?
Updating a core might cause that yeah. Same thing happens with standalone emulators.
