[Solved] SameBoy core on Android

Hi,all.

I just found SameBoy has the best sound emulation among 4 cores,so i decide change my default gameboy core from Gambatte to SameBoy.While there are two problems

1.How to change palette in SameBoy exactly? I’ve tried A+B+direction with using overlay, nothing happened,am i missing something here?

2.How to use single cart dual function and link cable emulation? I can’t control the second cart with overlay,is there a way to do this on android?

  1. I don’t know any way to change the palette. Is that supposed to be a thing?

  2. You would need to have a physical controller connected and then set the p2 device index to use the physical controller and then the overlay would control p1.

1.Idk it’s documented on Sameboy feature page

2.This does the tricks,thanks.

Hmm, weird. I wasn’t able to change the palette that way on Linux 64-bit, either…

I’m going to open an issue about this then.

Edit: It seems libretro/SameBoy doesn’t has an issue section?

from what ive seen, sameboy is maintained by upstream. they do most stuff libretro-related. better send issue to that page instead.

Thanks wertz I’ll go to their official github page instead.Btw I apologize to you again for my rude last time.Would you mind have a look at my issue about Nestopia?

lets just move on from that and start fresh…

sadly, i dont have android 4.4 to confirm this issue… ill try to reach out to some people who can test or able to fix this…

Thanks,I really appreciate that

I can’t test it right now, but last time I tried to change the palette in sameboy it worked.

Note that this is a feature from the original Gameboy Color, and only specific combinations of keys pressed while the “Gameboy” logo shows up at boot will work (after the boot completes you cannot change color anymore).

Also I believe this only works with roms from the original Gameboy. The Gameboy color roms will use their specific color palettes.

Maybe try other combinations:

@Ferk Oh my! Thanks,it works now,the way changing the palettes is not very user-friendly,but it does work.

Maybe more people need to know this.

Ok, great! And your screenshot shows that it actually works as well for GBC roms, so I was wrong about that one.

You’re not wrong :upside_down_face: The game in the screenshots above is a gb game.

I just tested a gbc game, palette can be changed, but the game itself can’t be played.

Edit: On SameBoy feature page I found this It seems not all gbc games can’t be played after changing palette.
