Sonic Adventure via Reicast

I’m sure if you’ve tried to boot Sonic Adventure via Reicast’s core you’ve seen how the “Sonic Team” intro causes a massive freeze that you have to force-close RA to get out of.

However, I’m a persistent person I guess because I have gotten past that a few times by hammering buttons as the game is loading. Which I guess skips the video.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this, or maybe perfected it?

I just want to play Sonic Adventure, and it’s like a 1/20 chance I get through that video to the actual game.

Try changing the cable type? I know when I was messing with Sonic Adventure the default cable type was really laggy for me.

I’ll have to play with that to see if it makes a difference. I’ve never touched it.

I just know if I push like Start or A or something that JUST the right moment it skips that video and then everything runs perfect.

It actually didn’t crash for the first few builds of the core. I’m not sure when it started crashing and I didn’t keep a copy of one of the builds where it didn’t, unfortunately.

You need to change the cable type to either VGA or TV (don’t remember which) and then it will pass the Sonic Team FMV.

This seems to be an old issue that has been around since the nullDC days.

Well thanks for the sugguestion on Cable type guys. Switching to VGA totally fixed it.

I still wish I knew, just out of curiosity, what the hell I was doing that allowed me to skip it, but either way I’m just stoked to play the game.

lol now I just have to deal with glitchy boost pads XD Can’t wait for this core to make more progress.

What’s wrong with the PC version that you would want to emulate the game?

It’s based on DX, which was based on the buggier Japanese Dreamcast version instead of the international release. I also prefer the original models over the DX models.

Nothing that I was aware of (till awakened pointed that out) lol

I just have a copy of all my games digitally on my Gam3B0x. If you check my video below it makes sense as to why I’d have console versions of everything.

The Dreamcast version also has some exclusive content, mostly DLCs.

The DX version is based on the International version not the original Japanese release version.

Hmm, I swear I read it was based on the Japanese version somewhere when Game Grumps were playing DX. Someone saying it was better they were playing the DX version since it was glitchier than the Dreamcast version and thus more likely for dumb stuff to happen. I can’t find a source saying what version it was based on though. The Sonic Retro wiki at least mentions: “New glitches were introduced, related to inconsistencies in the port (for example, some windows still reflect the original Dreamcast graphics).”
