SOQUEROEU – Mega Bezel TV Backgrounds

Hey. FNG in terms of shaders here. Followed instructions for installation to a T (I think) but, for some reason, RetroArch says that it “failed to apply shader preset” for every preset. MegaBezel shaders still work just fine, just not yours and that makes me sad because you made something truly phenomenal. Do you need a log or anything?

Hey @SumRando1994, welcome to forum! :slightly_smiling_face:

I was thinking, maybe the file versions you using are incompatible. Could you post your Retroarch and MegaBezel Shader pack version?

is it me or does this shader+bezel pack has a blue tint because i remember that the sony of america screen has a black background still love the work you have done

I just mentioned in Discord that I think the blue tint is a result of the Diffuse layer. (Although I haven’t tested my theory.) It can be turned off.

Maybe that’s @Duimon commented. If we are talking about diffused light, this can be turned off or modified. In my case, I use them this way to have a live tube appearance, as opposed to full black.

Diffuse ON

Diffuse OFF

But you might want to combine static light and bezel shadow, to simulate a screen dazzled by ambient light:

For diffuse light, the parameters are in this menu section:

I’m curious why it looks blueish, unless the tube diffuse color correction is being used. Otherwise it should be gray or slightly greenish.

Not that I’m saying bluish is bad, just wondering if it’s an artistic choice.

Yes i am using color in my parameters.

Retroarch v1.10.3 Mega Bezel v0.9.108

MegaBezel should be at Retroarch/shaders/shaders_slang and TV Backgrounds have to be at Retroarch/shaders/Mega_Bezel_Community.

If the shaders are placed properly and they don’t work than a log would help a lot.

I think I have everything in the right place but am still getting a failed to apply error on steam deck. Can someone tell me if the locations are wrong?

/home/deck/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/shaders/shaders_slang/bezel

/home/deck/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/shaders/Mega_Bezel_Community/Soqueroeu-TV-Backgrounds_V2.0

Here’s the error I get when I try to apply a preset: [WARN] [Shaders]: Could not read shader preset in #reference line: “/app/bin/Shaders/Soqueroeu/presets/TV-Console/Nintendo_Famicom.slangp”. [ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to create preset: “/home/deck/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/shaders/Soqueroeu-TV-Backgrounds_V2.0/presets/TV-Console-Night/Nintendo_Famicom.slangp”. [ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to create filter chain: “/home/deck/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/shaders/Soqueroeu-TV-Backgrounds_V2.0/presets/TV-Console-Night/Nintendo_Famicom.slangp”. Falling back to stock.

Any ideas?

Just to help you to make sure that you have everything in the right place, this is what my folder structure looks like:

Be sure to delete all of the old folders and redownload and install the new stuff in the correct locations.

You can try loading some other presets to see if it’s a bug on the preset side.

I’ve got it working in Windows, but on Steamdeck I still can’t get it working. The folder structure is sightly different of course, but looks like it matches. Certainly the other Megabezel community presets seem to load correctly.

My Soqueroeu-TV-Backgrounds-V2.0 folder, though, doesn’t contain the Screenshots or README.md (it lacks the former entirely and has Instructions.pdf rather than the readme).

Today i updated my idea of a retro gaming room experience with included console. Its not finished yet but for me it fits a more “authentic” epxerience.

My guess is that @soqueroeu might need to update the paths across his project to use relative paths.

If you see references with “:” in the path that could be the reason why they work on Windows and not SteamOS.

This is amazing! Congratulations. It looks great! :star_struck:

Thank you very much. The lighting is not yet perfect and the table extension is not too. I still have to optimize it a little. but I am also satisfied so far. When I’m done with it, I’ll make a version for the other consoles as well. I can also offer you the files for download.

Do you have the Background as a psd file with layers?

Looks great! Don’t be afraid to make the NES controller a little bigger.

Like this? What do you say to the lamp? Are this too much items on the screen? I am not sure…

Exactly, in the previous version the scale seemed a bit off.

It doesn’t bother me but with HSM Mega Bezel Reflection Shader’s lighting features you might be able to simulate an even more realistic effect of the light from the lamp reflecting off of the screen. Don’t make it any brighter though.

Personally, I wouldn’t want a light of any kind in my field of vision when watching TV, playing games or watching a movie but this lamp doesn’t seem to be that much of a distraction.

I don’t think it’s too much. You can probably leave it at that though.

Great job! It really builds upon the excellent work that @soqueroeu has done in a very tasteful manner.
