The Castlevania Advance Collection GBA Roms from No-Intro Pack

Well When I load them up in the mGBA and VBA Cores I don’t get any sounds

Does anyone else have the Same Problem or just me and IF So how can I fix that Problem?

Why don’t you just buy the collection? It’s on switch, xbox one and I think steam

@DaveTheMan1985 I just tried Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance with the VBA-M cores, and came up with the same result. Trying HoD via mGBA just gave me a white screen after the boot screen.

As far as a solution, I’m not sure.

I also asked on Reddit and got this Answer:

The standalone mGBA and VBA-M emulators also have silent games but both emulators will throw an error message saying that the games use an unimplemented BIOS call. Forcing either emulators to use the GBA bios will cause a game crash; mGBA displays an “invalid address” error message.

There’s really nothing you can do other than don’t use those versions and wait for an emulator update.

So it’s something to do with the Bios.

I guess we just have to wait for a Fix when the Core/Emulator Authors get around to Fixing It

I can’t reproduce the issue :man_shrugging:
More information would also be helpful (OS, RetroArch and core version …)

Tested with a clean environment:
Fresh RetroArch install,
downloaded new cores,
put BIOS in /system/ …

Every setting on default.

Tried with original BIOS on and off

system
RetroArch 1.9.11 (a9125ff) Windows 64bit

mGBA (70ed83c)
VBA-M (2.1.3 254f6ef)

you dont get pal ?

the games are this--------Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (USA) (Castlevania Advance Collection) all of “(Castlevania Advance Collection)” :upside_down_face:

What are you, five???

  1. Don’t call me “PAL”. Never!

  2. AFAIK there is no “No-Intro Castlevania Advance Collection GBA Rom”
No-Intro has the games i listed above. The only Castlevania Advance Collection is for Switch, PS4/5, Steam and XBox one/X/S.
And i don’t know if these games are compatible with GBA emulators.
(apparently not to 100% - sound issues - consequently not No-Intro)

The question is:
Has the OP the games from the No-Intro sets or those bought for Switch…etc.?

I am on Windows 64 bit using the Last Offical Release and using mGBA and VBA-M Cores @imno

Thanks for the info.
As you can see in the post above, i am not sure what roms you are using.

There is, but it’s “extracted” roms, that was recently added to no-intro. But from the sound of it, or should it be no sound, the emulators don’t support these roms.

My guess would be that these roms needs to be patched to work on these emus. Currently downloading from steam to check

Quote from riobits (dot) com:

The Castlevania Advance Collection uses a proprietary emulator with compressed ROMs.

so yes, that could be the problem.

Ok, i found the entries on datomatic. They have different checksums than the GBA roms.
Maybe some internal changes, that the emu devs haven’t implemented for now.

Since the games are identical (orig / collection) better stick with the original, as it is fully emulated

Using the Top 1

Read that there is no Difference to the Collection Games

Yes content-wise. But some changes must be there since they have different checksums (datomatic.no-intro.org):

[EDIT]:
This is the error from the log (whitescreen after boot)
mGBA - Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (USA) (Castlevania Advance Collection):

[libretro ERROR] GBA Memory: Jumped to invalid address: E15200A0
[libretro WARN] GBA: Illegal opcode: e710b710

This error is repeated until i quit (378.938 lines in the log after 5sec = 20MB logsize)

If i skip the BIOS then i have no sound, so probably it is BIOS-related. Some changes in the rom that require a different BIOS, to prevent piracy.
