Thoughts on cen64

Wondering if anyone has been tracking the cen64 project and if so thoughts on its potential as a port to libretro? It will be the first all around cycle accurate n64 emulator at least that I know of.

The devs are aware of it, but I really doubt it’s getting ported over to libretro anytime soon since it’s not really usable at the moment. Mupen64plus-libretro already supports the accurate angrylion plugin used in CEN64. “Cycle-accuracy” is a buzzword with no real meaning anyway.

I read a bit on their forums and it seems like the author thinks it’ll still be a few years from being something most end users would want to use. It’s been making some nice progress lately though and looks nice from the videos on their Youtube channel.

Besides the accuracy angle of the project, I just enjoy a nice software emulator that doesn’t have any plugins to have to mess around with to get the best out of each game. I’m hoping it ends up being a good mix of accuracy and speed like Mednafen PSX.

amen. I gave up on PJ64 a long time ago. It does look promising though, we will see.

Indeed. Hey, did you heard that CEN64 is gonna support 64DD? That’s like, the first time that a Nintendo 64 emulator do that!

Yes, apparently it can boot up the BIOS (maybe even go ingame, not sure): http://forums.cen64.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=155&start=0

To be honest, it’s not going the be worth the effort. People will hype it up like it’s the next big thing and a few weeks later nobody will talk about it anymore.

Personally, I’m only kinda interested in high quality music rips from the F-Zero Expansion Pack and the Super Mario 64 Tech Demo.

No way, people totally still rave about Virtua Hamster and Mike Tyson’s Intergalactic Power Punch… >.>
