Updated RetroArch to 1.4.1. Now it crashes on startup

I had tried RetroArch a while back on Stable Build 1.3.6 for Windows. I think I had even updated a few times to the nightly builds although I’m not sure what the latest nightly build I had used. Everything had worked great for me and I had a lot of fun playing some of my old favorite games. After a while I kind of fell out of emulation but just recently decided to try it out again after hearing about the 1.4 update as well as watching a few youtube videos about RetroArch, HyperSpin and LaunchBox. So I deleted my entire RetroArch folder and decided to start fresh with Stable Build 1.4.1. However as soon as I click on retroarch.exe I get “retroach.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” I deleted the retroarch folder and redownloaded 1.4.1 again just in case there was something wrong with the download but the same thing happened. So I deleted the folder again and downloaded Stable Build 1.3.6 and everything is working fine for me again. So something that was updated in 1.4 is causing RetroArch to no longer work on my computer. Any ideas on what I can try to get it to work? Or is there a way I can see exactly what is causing it to crash? I am using a Sony Vaio Laptop with 64 bit Windows 10. Thank you.

Use MSVC build, msys2 builds are not working currently with intel hd 3000. You can download MSVC build from the link given below. remember this exe file will work only in 1.4.1 32 bit version.so you will have to download 32 bit version then copy this MSVC build in extracted folder and simply run it. this file is given by bparker06 on an issue opened by eMSX on github. Full issue described on github, you can read it here

Thank you for that. It now works on my laptop. However, I am in the market for a new laptop so I was hoping that maybe you could recommend one for me. Like my old laptop is a Sony Vaio and is so slow in everything that it does. Like my ultimate end goal is to have as many systems set up as I can in retroarch and display them in launchbox. But launchbox in bigbox mode harly runs on my old laptop. I actually did go out and buy this laptop here (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-xps-15-6-4k-ultra-hd-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-1tb-solid-state-drive-silver/4550500.p?skuId=4550500) and I installed retroarch right away and tried playing some nes Super Mario Brothers on it and it was aweful. Sound cracking, screen tearing, not full speed, and input lag like I couldn’t believe. I have no idea why either since this new laptop is way better than my old. I’m sure it just a settings issue but I can’t figure it out and I’m thinking about returning it for something else. I’m not good when purchasing computers and always went with if it costs more it much be better which I know isnt always the case. So I’m probably going to go with something cheaper. I know this is off topic but I just figured if you could recommend a laptop that works perfectly with retroarch right out of the box then I would just get that and it would greatly help me out. Thanks.

So after some digging around I came across the post below here https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-42240

I noticed some threads on other forums online that seem to have found a workaround:
https://forums.duke4.net/topic/8383-win10-hd3000-32bpp-crash-on-4897/
http://forum.drdteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6696
They removed this Windows10 supportedOS GUID from the xml manifest and that seems to work:
<!--The ID below indicates application support for Windows 10 -->
<supportedOS Id="

If you click the first thread posted, someone created a small utility for EDuke32, to remove the Windows10 supportedOS GUID line from the xml manifest.

I tested it with RetroArch.exe (1.5.0) and it seems to work. (its called WTFI)

Previously I could only use 1.3.6

I know this is an older Thread however, I am having this exact problem! I have the Intel HD graphic card on my HP touch smart 610. However, I am unable to find this xml manifest to adjust it, nor do I truly know what I am doing… Anyone know how to do it? I’m trying to run romflix but cannot get retroarch to launch.

This thread probably has nothing to do with your issue, as it’s a very specific problem, but that’s okay. Have you tried running RetroArch on its own or are you always going through a launcher? If launcher, try launching it on its own first to isolate issues to a single program.

If it’s still crashing, make sure you have directx 9.0c installed (use Microsoft’s web installer if not). There is an issue that some people have run into with Windows and Sandy Bridge HD 3000 graphics, so if installing directx doesn’t fix it, trying using one of the ‘msvc’ builds from buildbot.libretro.com.

Hunter,

Thanks for the reply, I’ve installed Direct X (June 2010) build which contains the 9.0C files, additionally I’ve installed Adobe Flash player, Shockwave, Silverlight, updated the video driver to the most current one offered by Intel and a chip set driver. This is fresh Windows 10 install, 2 days old now.

The log file only shows the GUI as the basic microsoft driver. The Intel Video Graphic driver for the integrated 3200 HD card which this machine has I believe is the exact same issue these gentlemen had, I however, have not tired the msvc builds. I have also only been running retroarch solo since the other program runs correctly, my issue is retroarch itself. Thanks again, I will give the msvc build a try to see if it remedies the issue.

I was able to get the Retroarch 2017-09-15-msvc2010x64 to load finally! Now Romflix will not launch, lol just my luck.
