Vice x64/Commodore 64 3.0 setup help

Really excited to get Vice working and play some Commodore 64 games, but I’m having some issues getting them running/playing them. There seems to be no information about the controls at all.

I’m running the 64 Bit version on Windows 10

  1. I run a game, and right now its a crapshoot to see if the game will run or not, some will run fine, Like Kung-Fu Master or Hong Kong Phooey, and some like Law of the West comes up with the blue screen and says “device not present, error, ready”

That’s my first issue, some games work, some don’t, Do I need certain bioses to be in the systems folder?

  1. What are the controls? I’m using a Xbox one pad and sometimes I’m not able to advanced to the real game and sit in trainer menus. Sometimes I’m able to navigate out of them with the keyboard, but there is no documentation about the controls at all for this emulator, nor is there any info on the forums either, I have no clue how to navigate out of trainers or even start games half the time and is a really big issue just trying to play some of the simplest games. I didn’t grow up extensively with the C64 and only played it at my cousin’s a few times as a kid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve tried the Vice core with couple of roms, with quite similar feelings.

A little bit of help: many of the trainer/crew/whatever-they-are screens were bypassed with the RUN/STOP key. In Vice that’s the ESC key by default (iirc). The same key happens to be the RetroArch’s default for exit (or was it restart). So, I changed the RetroArch’s key binding to some another key, and now I can proceed to the game with ESC.

Could anybody explain me how this works with Retroarch on Windows 10?

E.g. Boulder Dash.d64. The game seems loading then nothing happens…
