Totaly agree, it’s got to be in my all time top 5! For it’s replay-ability, nostalgic atmosphere and awesome gameplay- I may not have played the arcade version straight away, but I wouldn’t play any other now! Thinking of either using my custom design or the original cab art on my original CAPCOM CP1 cab as it’s very generic right now
Oooh, that’s a great idea
Insane quality. These overlays just keep getting better and better.
Black Tiger 4k Vertical Overlay CPO update (CAPCOM / ROMSTAR 1987)
As promised, this is my take on the original cab artwork overlay, It’s keeping some elements from the original 4k overlay that @ArsInvictus built a few years back which had a lovely clean marquee and screen bezel so this is sort of a joint effort with him! - I’ve updated it with my current lighting and material techniques and visual polish including 3D cab elements and a new 3D CPO render. Thanks to @NeoKarnage for the CPO art and stickers
@ArsInvictus, @HyperspaceMadness, @NeoKarnage, let me know if this does the trick.
And the PNG for the Megabezel HERE
And @NeoKarnage has kindly put together a two view version of this for anyone who wants to switch between the custom and original views in MAME HERE
Fantastic as always. Thank you once more for another impressive overlay. Black Tiger can now be marked as complete.
I’ve compiled a zip file containing both PNG images and a combined .lay file for more convenient view switching in MAME. Here’s a link for those interested:

This was a Photoshop mock up I did of a @Papashine build. I worked with the theme designer of arcadeflow for the Attract Mode frontend to get this working well for the vertical arcade project.
Unfortunately, I was unable to stay involved in the project. I just was not able to create the hardware to build my vertical arcade setup. It was almost maddening how many walls I hit. I check in often to see if there is something I could buy, but there just isn’t. Maybe that new Xarcade TV VR thing might work.
I don’t really have access to any woodworking tools or a CNC, so I’m kind of just a voyeur at this point. The work everyone is doing here still amazes me.
Absolutely beautiful work, as always! I’ll add this to my megabzel gdrive too
Just thought I’d share some good news on my health, for those that remember, I’ve been dealing with a severe heart failure diagnosis for the last 6 months or so now. My heart’s ejection fraction (how much blood it pumps each beat) was down at 15% back in May, but after an MRI last week I am happy to report it is back up to 40%. 50-70% is a normal healthy range and it’s entirely possible if I continue on this trajectory I’ll get back up to that level. My blood flow is already better than the average healthy person’s and my long term prognosis is looking much better! Thanks to all for your well wishes, it’s been quite a journey, but I’m feeling much healthier, grateful and blessed!
Oh wow, Congratulations!!! that really is amazing news! I’m so happy and relived to hear your health is on the mend, and your heart is getting stronger and stronger - I think I speak on behalf of everyone here by saying that the world is a far better place with you in it!! Keep up the good work, and please keep us posted on your progress
So happy to hear friend!
Updated Gradius 3 4K Vertical Overlay
Finally got around to completing this. I’ve updated the artwork with higher quality sources and did some additional cleanup. I also kept the instruction card colors as they were originally this time.
Not sure if anyone is closely maintaining the Google Drive, but I just did an install of RA + MB from scratch and applied the gdrive pack. I can add more feedback as I go through everything.
-Outfoxies params are empty, so generic image fills the entire screen when loaded.
-Unsure if everything shared in this thread is supposed to be on the gdrive, but Splatterhouse was one I noticed missing.
Thanks for all this work, I just installed on a 43" and love it!
Thanks for letting me know @SmedleyB! I’ll take a look at Outfoxies, it’s all manual so very possible there are some mistakes out there. Feel free to message me if you find more.
Not all the overlays are out there yet by any means, this is something I just work on occasionally right now. If you or anyone else wants to help out with the maintenance I can grant access.
I was wondering how you been lately and tagged you asking in one of my own “health update” posts over on my MagicHat's OrionsAngel Mega Bezel MAME Arcade Setup. Glad to hear your positive progress and recovery is going well! Hearing stories like yours gives me hope for my own issues. I’m going through phases of ups and downs myself with my Ulcerative Colitis but doing much better than I was back in July/Aug but I recently fell into a renewed flare up so I’m back to the “bad days”. I’m just hoping I’m one of the lucky ones who get to celebrate at some point for going into remission but I’m fully aware of what needs to be done if I’m not one of those lucky ones. (J Pouch Surgery).
Thanks @MagicHat! Hopefully it’s just a temporary setback for you and you will be back to where you were again soon. My only advice is to try to keep hoping for the best. I was told by a surgeon that I will never improve much and that it would be a miracle if I ever get past 20% function. Yet 4 months later I’m here at 42.5. After he told me that I should basically give up hope I was so upset I couldn’t work for two days and my hands were shaking with anxiety. I wish I could go back to those days to tell myself not to worry, that he was wrong and that I’d be much better soon. Just keep doing everything under your own control and hope for the best.
I just met with an old coworker of mine and he had stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma. They gave him 2-3 months to live. But he got on a clinical trial for a new medication and he is currently in complete remission 18 months later.
Just hang in there, things can turn around!
Karate Champ 4K Vertical Overlay (Technos Japan / Data East 1984)
“Karate Champ” is a 1984 arcade fighting game developed by Technōs Japan and released by Data East. Players use two 4-way joysticks to perform 24 moves in a one-on-one fight between two karatekas: one in a white gi (player one) and the other in a red gi (player two or the CPU). Successful players advance through bonus rounds and increasingly challenging levels set in a dojo and a tournament stadium.
Here’s my small contribution to this awesome community.
MAME zip file: https://mega.nz/file/7x0A0BaJ#EXhHrF-BcIly3QI3bknzVAAR9XW6bj57bi2TEzx9HVs
Love it - such a classic, it always reminds me of IK+ on my Amiga 500! I’ve never played it with duel joysticks mapped for one player, going to give that a go later! No contribution to the community is small, the time and effort are much appreciated!
Thanks, appreciated. It’s one of my favorites plus it was featured in the movie Bloodsport.
