Adding a feature request?

I know Lakka is still very early in development, but it does look quite promising. I am curious if you plan on adding a feature request to the forums. If so, here are 3 suggestions I’ve came up with since playing with it:

1.) Rom scraping capability: Having the ability to show the actual cartridge or box of a game instead of the generic cartridge. I know a lot of front ends have this feature,so it shouldn’t be too bad to add. One feature that would be nice that I’ve seen one use though is look up capabilities by CRC as well as by filename.

2.) Media capabilities: Having the ability to stream video from another computer to this machine or even video playback capabilities (similar to what xbmc/kodi uses). If this feature is added, Plex support would be a great option.

3.) Linking/accessing network drives for ROMS. Since most devices that will be using Lakka will more than likely have limited storage space, having an easy way to link a shared drive on a personal network into Lakka so that roms can be streamed over the home network and centrally stored. This may be a feature that may already be implemented that I overlooked.

Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to when the official release it out. It looks like it might be a perfect fit for the mini-itx (or possibly NUC) build I am looking at doing soon.

1.) Squarepusher is working on that. There is already a database being integrated in RetroArch, with CRC matching. Adding covers support to the menu can be done once we have a non clocking png loader.

2.) The idea is interesting. The libretro ecosystem already feature a PSP remotejoy code. It would have a more general purpose streaming app as a libretro core. I took a look at Plex but all their documentation seems down. Is this open source code?

3.) For now we support NFS mounting. Some users have set it up to play contents from their NAS.

So all these ideas are interesting. I would love to see that implemented in Lakka. But for now we have to focus on getting the very basic functionnalities working. By very basic, I mean, cores working properly everywhere, and a nice and fast menu able to launch games. There is no point going further with new feature right now. So it replies to your first question : no need for a separated feature request forum for now.

Not a problem with the development. I know Lakka is is still in early stages.

Glad to hear Squarepusher is working on CRC scraping, since name lookup seems to be rather hit and miss from what I’ve seen (F-Zero and B.O.B. constantly fail lookups).

With regards to Plex, their backend is closed source (the server), but the frontend they use is open source. Plex originally was a fork of XBMC and grew from there. I know there is a plugin for XBMC that adds Plex support to it; it may be of use for a similar implementation for Lakka.

Thank you for the quick replies.

it would be nice to see neo geo emulation in future

You can emulate neogeo via FBA and MAME cores.
