AI Overlays

AI

Image Generation tools have improved exponentially in recent years, and despite lingering issues like text, you can now generate many scenes to your particular taste. Hence, it can now be used to generate overlays!

So, share your best AI slop with us!

Edits of AI images are valid here as well, so you can fix any slop you want before sending!

The image must be usable! This might include a 16:9 aspect ratio and a high enough resolution. If your image resolution is too low you can use a free upscaling tool like Upscayl. If you’re not sure, load it in Retroarch; if it works and looks good, you’re all set!

Optionally, you can include a Uborder preset so your image is directly usable as a shader, and the user does not need to configure anything.

Example…

Close-up front view of a CRT TV sitting on a desk. The TV is turned off. Game cases can be seen next to the TV. The room is reflected on the screen glass. Every corner of the room is visible from the reflection.

Great subject, it was already time for that.

I’ll contribute in the next days. I’m slowly working on some overlays.

So, my first contributions, two ai overlays (with some small manual adjustments in GIMP to fit 4:3 perfectly):

04-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-USA-Europe-250314-092434 04-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-USA-Europe-250314-092412 04-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-USA-Europe-250314-092347

Both use koko-ambi, which means the overlays change shadows and colors dinamically.

The overlays + uborder presets: AI Overlays - Hyllian - 25-03-14

@bitman, feel free to add to your pack. I’m using the same folder, BTW.

One question, what prompts do you use to make the Super Metroid toy come out that way? Because I was experimenting and didn’t expect such a horrible result hahaha. Or is the result completely random and you have to use a cue until you get what you expect?

In this case, it’s a chat with Gemini until I get the picture I want. My first prompt to Gemini was this:

“Make an image of a classic 2000s CRT TV, positioned directly facing the viewer. The TV screen is off, slightly rounded, and subtly reflecting the surrounding environment. The TV sits on a dark wooden desk with various retro elements. Objects on the desk: Left side of the TV: A detailed Samus Aran action figure. Some game cases. Right side of the TV: A transparent sonic clock and a Sonic action figure. Both sides of the TV: Stacks of vintage video game boxes. Background: A light-green-colored wall.”

You need to chat with gemini and ask for adjustments until you get something useful.
