Any way to lower GPU temps with Mega Bezel?

Hey guys! So I’ve been playing on Linux Mint with my Nvidia 3080 Ti laptop GPU on my nice new 4K TV using Mega Bezel, the Smooth Adv Glass preset. So, best of the best. Expectedly, my GPU runs pretty hot - consistently around 85 to 87°C. Moderate, but certainly audible fan noise.

So I’ve been wondering. Have you guys found ways to lower the GPU temps a little even while using the Mega Bezel pack on a 4K screen? I realize it’s probably par for the course, and 85-87 is still within safe limits, but hey, if somebody has a way to shave a couple degrees off, that probably wouldn’t hurt

I also have a Nvidia 3080 Ti laptop GPU and a 4K TV.

In RetroArch: Set the vertical signal frequency to 60 Hz and set Vsync to off (let Nvidia do that thing)

You can clean your case and card. Install more case fans or improve the orientation or design of your cooling system. It’s possible that you don’t have enough air intake. Sometimes reapplication of thermal paste and replacement of thermal pads can help GPU temps.

Use MSI Afterburner to lower the temp limit and/or increase the GPU fan speed.

Undervolt using MSI Afterburner.

Underclock your card slightly.

Use RivaTuner Statistics Server to limit your frames to 60fps. (This one should be higher up in the list)

Limit frames to 60fps using nVidia driver control panel.

Hi, mrmatteastwood

Sure, there are a few things you can try. Which preset are you using? There are some other glass settings that are less demanding (MBZ_STD-GLASS.slangp).

he is on linux mint no MSI Afterburner at all :hugs:

Some presets are more demanding, especially smooth ones. If you use more basic presets, then gpu utilization should be lower.

Thanks! I’m aware of all these suggestions and I did all of that back when I had a desktop PC (and when Iw as on Windows) Now that I have a Linux gaming laptop, there’s not much I can do beyond keeping it clean. Still, thanks for the summary, it’s good to keep all this in mind!

Thanks for the suggestions (also to guest.r) I will tinker around a little with some of the less demanding presets. Again, I’m not really worried about the temps anyway, they’re high but safe for all I know. And dammit does Meg Bezel look incredible on a 4K screen!
