Audio issue using HDMI

I just built a cheap PC to install Lakka on and I’m having a curious issue with the sound. Here’s my situation:

i3-7100 processor MSI Radeon HD 7790 graphics card

When I attempt to use the audio from the HDMI slot on the graphics card, I get strange garbled audio that crackles and buzzes. You can hear the sound effects and music, but it’s covered up by these weird sounds.

I have tried it on a Bravia 4K TV that runs @ 120hz and a regulard 1080p HD TV with the same results. I have tried just about every combo of video and audio settings possible.

When I plug headphones or computer speakers into the regular integrated audio, everything is fine.

Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks.

Is it possible to provide some log especially lakka system, dmesg, audio log.

Also did you try to make a test with another hdmi cable ?

HELP!!! i dont know how to create a post so i have to reply until i figure out how to create a post.
i have a Acer Aspire REVO R1600-U914He - ultra-slim desktop https://www.cnet.com/products/acer-aspire-revo-r1600-u914he-ultra-slim-desktop-atom-n230-1-6-ghz-1-gb-160-gb/specs/ I want to remove the internal hdd and boot lakka on one usb and load games off another usb, is this possible? i think without the os on the internal hdd the computer bios will still start and i could boot off usb but i dont know if the lakka intall usb would install onto a second usb. also when i used lakka boot usb, (not installed) on another pc, there was no sound, hdmi to tv.

You can make new threads after like 5 or 10 minutes of being logged into the forum. It’s an antispam measure.

I don’t think you can install Lakka to a USB drive, but you can run the live version from USB. You should try the live version on the machine you’re actually wanting to use. Your experience with the other machine is not really applicable.

thanks for the help! am i able to format the HDD inside the acer wiping windows os, then use the “install lakka usb” to install it directly on the HDD so that its the only operating system on the pc or does the pc need to have windows on it? also, is there front end skins for lakke that i would need to put on a usb to install as this pc wont have the internet. Thank you for all your help

Anyone notice anything in my log that might explain my problem?

I don’t see anything specific, but people often have to set their audio device in Lakka correctly to get the audio working, as per this page: http://www.lakka.tv/doc/Audio-settings/

@loki6869 The PC doesn’t need Windows on it, but you’ll want to have another PC around for remote troubleshooting via ssh. Lakka doesn’t support any skins or anything, just RetroArch’s menus.

@jabedoben We can see a segfault from dmesg but not with RetroArch log… ?

Can you try to play sound following this tutorial ?

Can you try to play some sound with aplay ?
