Best Shader to choose for MODERN TV

Hey Guys,

So, I’m looking for the best shader (or at least a direction to look in) for my setup. However while there are TONS of topics about retro-style shaders, there’s not many I’ve seen go the other direction.

I’m using a 50" LCD TV, and I INSIST on making everything stretch to 16:9, no scanlines, and no CRT glow or curve.

…I know a lot of you just threw up in your mouth a little bit.

I’ve been using the advanced_aa shader at 1x & nearest (what is linear?). It looks pretty good… but I wanted to know if there was possibly some better options for the kind of setup I am running. I really want to make everything look as polished as possible. There’s just so many of the shaders, and most of them aim at recreating the retro feel.

( I have an actual CRT with my consoles hooked up to that, so the beauty isn’t lost on me I’m just doing something else with the PC )

I appreciate any input you guys might have.

I would recommend looking into scalenx and xbr shaders. mudlord/waterpaint is also pretty cool. 4xsoft also looks pretty good when stretched.

Thanks for the recommendations! I tried these out before work today on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)

XBR & 4xSoft were pretty good, but I think the advanced_aa still looked a little smoother. Not a fan of the mudlord/waterpaint (or the other waterpaint ones i tried) though they had some interesting effects.

However, the Scalenx ones? Oh… my… god… that blew advanced_aa out of the water! lol I didn’t get to try them all but I tried the 9x one. Man was that beautiful. Made it look like the Sonic 2 HD project that was going on haha.

I think that’s going to be my go-to shader for sure!

Thanks man!
