Bitman's Uborder Presets

Since Hylian already did all the hard part, I was gonna add a slightly tweaked version of a single of his newest presets, which is just darker and with a more pronounced ambilight. Going to call it [Soqueroeu MIDNIGHT]

Of course, credits to Hylian for making most of the config, and to Soqueroeu for the image

I guess the extra layer was worth it! the leds help to makes it very convincing!

  • Removed all 90s variants and replaced then with a single 90s for ease of use.

  • Re-structured the folders and introduced a flavor-chooser.slangp, so ALL the presets use AMBILIGHT by default now. To change this, just edit the file as per instructions.txt

I highly recommend deleting your current installation, since files have been moved/removed and you will have duplicate files.

Soqueroeu’s preset specifically might present a bit of lag on more demanding systems when using koko-ambi, perhaps due to the leds (?). You might only want to change that one, so you can skip the flavor-chooser.slangp reference and use uborder-bezel-reflections directly.

I think it’s because the pngs are 4k in size.

Do you believe I could somehow downscale it to improve the performance?

And will you distribute the downsampled version of each png?

Or I misunderstand and you are trying to downsampling through shaders? ( this won’t improve nothing). I think Retroarch takes some time to load a 4k png.

No, I’m thinking of just downsampling (or whatever easy “down-resolution” method) the LEDs png. Do you think there would be too much sacrifice?

I’m using a 1080p screen, with lower res. than 1080p, so I’m guessing no difference here? Unless I zoom, maybe

I can downscale it through Gigapixel if you want?

Yes please!

Unless it causes errors, I think I’d make it the default

You should downscale the two pngs to the same size. Border and led

  • Added @Boz1978’s downscaled pngs!

  • 4k pngs are still there for those who can run them, you just need to edit the BORDER at the bottom of the preset file.

  • Tweaked the darkness and ambilight a little better

Thank you! No more stuttering on PS1!

For some reason, lcd-grid-v2 with integer scaling scaled down works perfectly here, perhaps because of the aspect ratio.

The forum does not let me edit my original post, for some reason, so I will re-link to the handheld presets here:

Haha, thanks! That’s exactly the vibe I was going for.

I was thinking of bringing the OG Gameboy, but I think dmg and gameboy-pocket shaders are not supported yet. Maybe it would look good with the dot.slangp though.

Edit: Nevermind, I kind on fiddled around and it’s hard to beat the original Retroarch implementation, especially since Gameboy is black and white and wouldn’t get that same ambiance coolness.
