Box Art Display Issues Rpi2

So I’ve played around with Lakka a lot but I left it alone for a while ( I bought a house and had life things to do.) But I dusted it off after about 9 months of not really updating it. Previously, I had the Boxarts downloaded on my USB Stick and it would just look to those Box Arts to get the Box Arts. I just downloaded the latest release, and it seems way different. I love the Scan feature, and how it displays all of the names but how do I get the Box Arts to work? I’ve gotten some of the Nintendo/SNES Ones to display by downloading, but the FBA Alpha, Atari, and Sega Master System don’t seem to display no matter what I do.

I’m using 2GB SD Cards so if it stores locally, I’ll know my answer is to get a better SD card but right now I’m storing all of my ROMS on a 32GB Thumbstick and I have 2 SD Cards so if one was to corrupt I could swap it in if I need to.

I saw the FB Alpha Pack was 1.2gb so I’m almost positive if it stores it locally that would be why, but I’m just having a hard time finding information about it at all. I used Google advanced search through Libretro.com and I was unable to find anything specific about Boxarts, but just simply a click and download and since it wasn’t working that way (Except sometimes for NES/SNES) and the downloads were kind of random if they would fail or not I was just wondering if anyone had some more detailed information/can walk me through getting the Box Arts working again.

Edit: Not sure if that has anything to do with it but everytime I download any Pack it says downloading and keeps resetting at like 8-12%. Eventually it will say unpacking .zip but it’s definitely confusing.

Hi, maybe this can help you. I installed Retroarch in my PC and used it to download the big thumbnails collections. Then I just copied the thumbnails of the games I have to my Lakka setup (Raspberry Pi 3).

You have to use in Lakka the same folders structure of thumbnails that Retroarch will create. You have to add this on the Thumbnails folder in the storage area.

Thanks, I really appreciate the suggestion. I am still not able to get the FB Alpha Box Arts to show, I’ve had varying results with NES/SNES/Genesis but I’m trying some other things at the moment. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks for your help!

Thumbnail images are stored on your rpi2 lakka device, so depending on the the systems you’re emulating and how many ROMs you have, it can take several gigabytes to store the thumbnails. You can download individual thumbnail packs at http://thumbnailpacks.libretro.com/ and see their file sizes to get a rough idea how much space you need.

Based on what you said, you will probably need to get a larger system drive for Lakka or change the thumbnail directory in the configuration menu so that your thumbnails are stored on the larger 32GB drive where you are storing your ROMs.

Thanks for the link! Now it will be much easier to download the thumbnails packs.

What you say was definitely correct. I put a 128 GB SD Card in there and it seems to be working for the most part. Have a little greater understanding how things work since I did it manually with the download. The 32GB Isn’t big enough to support both Roms and Thumnail Files. I tried changing the Thumbnail directory and when I did the Thumbnails weren’t showing, but I figured since I threw in my 128gb Micro in it I’ll just settle for the default location until I can get it working consistently inside the USB.

Thanks a ton, I have it working now.
