Bpi turning off when PS3 controller plugged in

Hey guys i just want to say… love this! amazing work, so easy and efficient.

I just was wondering if anyone is having the same issue or know how to fix the issue. I have a BPI M1, it works really well with my PS3 controller. If i take it to my friends house… we plug in the micro usb and hdmi and it starts up, when we plug his controller in the system just shuts down as soon as the PS button has been pressed.

I thought this was extremely weird, I brought his controller back to my place and plugged in my micro usb and my hdmi cable with his controller. It did shut down, however it did not register the key presses on his controller. When I plug my controller in it works straight away.

I am completely stumped, can anyone offer guidance??

Hi teo,

Maybe his controller has something special that causes a kernel panic

we tried two different controllers at his place, same issue - none of these cause it to shut down at my place. but only my controller is read by it. I’m thinking a reflash of the software?

So I’ve reinstalled on different SD CARDS, I’ve installed on bpi and rpi2 and both do the same thing. I tried a different mini usb cable to connect the PS3 controller and it didn’t turn off. Anytime an origina PS3 cable is plugged in it seems to restart.

Interesting… Any ideas anyone?

Sorry, I don’t know really, the PS3 controller I have here is official too, and works on my Pi2. I don’t understand why :frowning:

Sorry Kivutar, I am referring to the mini usb cable which is causing the issue not the controller. I’ve done testing and with non official USB cables and they work fine, but the official PS3 USB charge cable does not.
