Considering a New Lakka Build

A friend of mine wants a dedicated emulation machine so I’m thinking of helping him put it together. Raspberry Pi 3 or Odroid XU4? We will primarily be emulating games from the Genesis to N64 era to include MAME. What are the main advantages/disadvantages of these boards? I really wish the Odroid had built in wifi but will both boards handle emulation duties equally well?

The RPi3 port is working but still experimental. Odroid XU4 is stable and working pretty well.

Chromeboxes work amazingingly well. I’m running an asus chromebox as a dedicated retro box and it plays everything nes to N64/Ps1 perfectly. I’ve only tried a couple psp games but it seems to handle them ok as well!

Azrick, what is the configuration of your Asus Chromebox?

It’s the asus M004U model. 1.4ghz, 2GB memory, and Intel video. Got it from Amazon for around $120 I think

Thanks Azrick, I will look for a PC with similar configuration. Here in Brazil, Asus chromebox is not affordable.

I have both the RPi3 and the XU4 and tried out Lakka on both. For most things the RPi does just fine, but for N64 and PSP games, the XU4 is much better. The community around RPi is much stronger, so you’ll find a lot more support and versatility there. If nothing else RPi has much better case options.

rpi3 is not even best bang for your buck. if you are looking for something in same price range…get odroid c2, n odroid forums give great support n development. http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/03/01/raspberry-pi-3-odroid-c2-and-pine-a64-development-boards-comparison/

A friend of mine is going to US, and I was thinking of asking him to buy a device for me. Is it better to buy a RPI3, XU4 or ASUS Chromebox? Are there others suggestions?
