Crashes after 8 minutes or within 30 seconds of loading a rom

I’m having some issues with Lakka I installed on a old Dell pc that was running Windows XP. I installed the 32bit version and everything seemed to work just fine at first. However after trying my first game (Sonic the Hedgehog), the game froze after about 30 seconds. After rebooting, I noticed that the system freezes after 8 minutes. This has happened after multiple reboots and always around 8 minutes or within 30 seconds of running a rom.

Any thoughts? I’m new to emulators and Lakka so after searching the web I’ve come to a dead end. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, it’s the first time that I hear about an error like that :o

Old(er) hardware can be plagued with sporadic or unusual problems that may be difficult for others to reproduce. It could be thermal problems triggering a self-preservation shutdown (dusty/crusty heat sinks or fans). Could be voltage problems from an old power supply. Could be corrosion on some connector.

I have a Dell laptop that occasionally exhibits flaky network adapter behavior. It shows up as segfaults in the Lakka log, but I don’t think Lakka has anything to do with that.

I was going to post the same thing as Usury - PCs that shut down after a short amount of time are usually reaching their thermal limit (overheating). Typically PCs will respond by shutting down or rebooting automatically.

Give the old beast a clean up and check all the fans are spinning when it’s turned on.

Yeah, the pc’s been in the attic for a bit. I’ll do some early spring cleaning and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This also happens in my machine, and before Lakka, we used it for C development. And this never happened before. It crashes.

The computer is as clean as it can be, and though it is old, it still works, but there something in Lakka that blows it up.

Any idea at what log we should read to know where those problems come from?

Just an update, I did clean my computer and all the fans are running fine. However I am still having issues with the system freezing after only being on for a few minutes. All I do is turn on my pc, Lakka loads and takes me to the menu screen, and then after a few minutes it freezes.

Side note - my pc was working fine before I installed Lakka, as in no crashes or freezing issues.
