Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

Duimon by chance you won’t have it for MSX, Supergrafxt, Amstrad GX4000 and Famicom Disk System? They are the only systems that I lack to have reflection.

Thanks

Not yet. I haven’t actually committed to doing the FDS because it is really just an add-on for the Famicom, and I have done a graphic for that system.

If I do one it will probably be a bit like my SegaCD graphic and use the Famicom graphic as a base.

The SuperGrafx is something I want to do but it will be kind of strange to work on, a big part of what is going on with the console would be hidden by the bezel, were I to simply slap a SuperGrafx on the screen.

The MSX and the GX4000 are both graphics you will see sooner than later. (They are on my shortlist.)

The challenge with the MSX and MSX2 will be the same as the NEC PC-98. Which of the many systems to use as a source?

While you are waiting, it is fairly simple to take an existing overlay and use it as a background in the shader.

I agree with you with the FDS one, something simple like the mega CD would be enough.

Supergrafx I have never understood why the five games have different resolution, perhaps the solution would be to make a bezel for each one.

The others I am glad to know that they are on your list, by the way how many more are there on your list?

Commodore I’m waiting for Namek to bring out his package which looks amazing.

One last thing, are you uploading all the updates to your github or do you hang it here directly?

Thanks for everything

I told you!! No rush, it was just a proposal for (I think) a beautiful-design console which I have not seen too many overlays out there. Just in case you consider It’s interesting and fun to recreate it into graphics someday!! I’m happy that you showed interest on it!! Thank you!!!

All my graphics are 4K so they are distributed from my GitHub. I post WIP and Final version screenshots here for feedback.

Welcome to the world of the Mega Bezel shader, it doesn’t care what resolution the game is, it handles all the scaling for you. (Unlike overlays, the bezel and frame are dynamic.)

I’m still not quite sold on doing a graphic. Unlike the 32X and SegaCD (Which brought with them enhanced CPUs.) The only thing the the FDS brought was enhanced sound and save states. It’s a little like doing a graphic for the Disney Sound System, Adlib, or Turtle Beach.

Though I probably will do a graphic.(Sometimes it’s about having fun too.) My TurboExpress, SEGA Nomad, and PSone are each just an alternative way to view the same games.

Doing these graphics brings me great joy, so of course, the pleasure is all mine my friend.

Another thing I REALLY REALLY enjoy is doing obscure systems. My goal is to create the most comprehensive set of graphics available.

So… thank you for the suggestion and, please, keep them coming!

Thanks I didn’t know, I had never used shader presets, only individual shaders.

I understand you perfectly, I could use the Famicom preset since the FDS was below, the same goes for Satellaview and Tsufami Turbo.

Maybe I’ll consider making them myself even if they don’t fit that well, are you planning to make the missing laptops? I think they are the neo geo pocket, Wonderswan and VirtualBoy, I am also very surprised that there is nothing from Atari ST and Atari 800 or XE, I understand that others like the X1, the Spectravideo or the Thomson that are less known do not have but from Atari I thought there would be.

Sorry if I ask for a lot, it’s the desire to have a perfect and beautiful Retroarch

Patience my friend. From the second post in this thread:

I have been working on this project for only about a year.

The Neo Geo Pocket and Pocket Color are done and the WonderSwan Duo are on my shortlist.

Actually, the list of remaining systems is pretty short so they are all on my shortlist.

Just one year? Incredible, I will wait for the next updates to see what you surprise us with. :+1:

Surprise!

@AnonymousAndy

Here’s a brand new WIP.

The LowRes NX virtual console!

I may make some changes as I spend some more time filling in the details, but I think the concept is fairly complete. I may have some fun with details.

Here’s the final version.

If I was doing this for money I’d probably be a little worried about SONY seeing the keyboard.

Interesting, I’ll take a look at this core to see how it goes.

Good job as always Duimon :+1: :grinning:

I worked up the Advanced version of this preset. As usual it is scale-able with a separate background.

I will be doing a preset update sometime today.

I will also be uploading a dozen or so backgrounds to the backgrounds folder.

Edit: I did a quick preset update so you could try out the NX.

Here’s a previous post with a link for some content.

Ok I am having a hell of a time with the Lynx preset. Trying with both beetle and handy, I can load any game and apply the preset, looks great! Save a new preset though (I usually just turn off the intro) and they don’t load again… the graphic will load but the screen is just black. RA isn’t really locked up as I can still “esc” to exit but F1 does not bring up the menu. Only thing you can do is delete the preset at this point. I even tried copying your Lynx.slangp and renaming to Beetle Lynx.slangp. RA does lock up with this though, need to task manager out.

At a total loss here, looks so great on first load. What kind of settings could be different when using the preset?

On a side note. For anyone loading these through RocketLauncher, IntelliVision was acting odd until I specified 16:9 in the module:

I only mention this because I did not have to set this in the other 10-12 systems I set up so far so it may not be obvious.

The issue in the above post has nothing to do with RocketLauncher, I am only testing in RA with Lynx ATM.

It must be something on your end, I tried doing both things you mentioned and it worked for me.

Let me backup and updated the core and try again.

Edit: Worked fine there also.

I have added 9 additional backgrounds to the backgrounds folder, including a couple carbon fiber variations. I will add more as time goes by.

Damn ok, this is what I get:

Game is running in the background, buttons on gamepad do work. No RA menu. I will report back if I find the culprit.

Apparently it’s vulkan, changing to glcore fixes it. Question now though, I was under the assumption vulkan is “better” so I have just been using that. Now do I just set a core override for lynx to use glcore? or should I just leave it on glcore for all?

Here’s a link from @hunterk’s explanation on Reddit a couple of years ago. I think the short answer is that glcore is the most compatible, but Vulkan has some better performance in some cases. Personally when I was testing between GLCore and Vulkan I found I was getting better performance with Vulkan.
