Thank you. I may narrow the cabinet a bit, and push the speakers up just a hair for the Vertical. (To give the game screen more room) But this would require a different preset, so wouldn’t be automatic.
Wow! This turned out super nice! I like that there is an option to use tilt too!
Hello Sir, I have a request for you, which I’m not expecting you’ll want to fulfill but I’m going to put it out there.
I just showed this to my wife and asked which setup she liked better…
She said that she “really likes the one on the landscape screen but it’d be cool if you had a version of that you could put on the portrait screen” and then she said I should ask “the clever guys online about doing that” and here we are!
So, any chance you want to apply you skills to some generic, portrait screen friendly, graphics for the arcade games?
I have a set of 4K vertical graphic but I have been wanting to overhaul the template since I did it a long time ago.
I have plans for doing a full cabinet of sorts for the arcade stuff but it will be quite an undertaking. I want it to measure up to the 3D rendered stuff the other groups are working with.
For a rapid solution maybe you could convince them to do something. I have thought about asking @Briball for access thier source instead of doing vector, but really want to keep the scale-ability that vector provides.
That being said, I think I would like to do a 4K vertical version of the MAME graphic.
I’ll have a look at your historical work…guess that was before my time and I haven’t found my way there yet!
I hear ya, the folks working on the 4K verticals are doing amazing work over there…my monitor is not doing it justice at all, not big, bright or high res enough. It’s a high bar to stack yourself against for sure.
Keep in mind though, your work is what popped off the screen to my wife’s eyes, when they were both sitting side by side on my fairly average monitors. It looks amazing and your style is probably a better fit for my setup (and plenty of others). The 4K crew are targeting the vertical cabs which is a whole different ball game. Guess what I’m saying is, absolutely challenge yourself and do whatever you feel like doing, however, there is a lot to be said for your signature style!
I’m excited to see what you come up with, whenever that may be and really appreciate you taking it into consideration
I wanted to be able to rotate my LG 65" OLED but unfortunately the set is not balanced so it killed my dream of Vertical OLED Raiden DX.
Ah shucks…
I have modified the cabinet preset, but I have two problems, the first is that the screen tilt effect makes the emulation go very slow and I have to deactivate that effect, the second is that the screen size for me is too small So I suppose that in the end I will use the other preset and modify it too, or that or I make the screen bigger in the cabinet and eat the speakers
I am toying around combining elements of my two MAME graphics.
I made the holes in the perforated metal a bit smaller and added a frame to the bezel, (Because it made sense.)
Since these are hybrid templates, (The vector components are exported separately and combined in Photoshop.) it is a lot easier to make color and text changes.
This allows me to easily do this.
What do you think?
What I think is that I do not know why it has not occurred to me , it looks very good is another option, this arcade has many possibilities.
I have ideas that I plan to put into practice, as soon as I have it I will upload some captures.
Having mercy on those that can’t do tilted screens…
I am feeling like I like this perforated metal bezel a LOT. I am planning on keeping it.
Right now the source is a complete mess. I am going to clean it up and do a simple guide on replacing the text, and changing the color.
It will probably take me a couple of days to work this out.
I’m going to try to integrate crt geom’s curvature so we have a performant option which has tilt…
Well this has moved on a lot in the 4 days since I asked about an arcade bezel!! Nice work
I have a request for you all.
I am having a tough time finding good high resolution arcade room backgrounds. If any of you have any to offer in 4K I would appreciate the contribution.
How about some feedback?
As much as I like the speaker panel and control panel insets in these graphics, I think it will make it harder for people to customize.
How do you think it looks without the insets?
It also brightens up the graphic a bit.
I like that the speakers and controls are visible but it causes a problem that I don’t like, the game screen is too small, I prefer something like the other systems but of course then I run out of controls or speakers, it is a dilemma, being able to modify it is also a problem, it was very complicated for me, but the truth is that I only want a generic horizontal one and a generic one for vertical games, I really don’t know what to do.
If you remove the speakers and the controls it will be empty and it will not look very arcade.
Nevertheless, that is what I will probably do when I make a generic arcade graphic. This graphic, (As much as I like it.) was not really intended to be that.
When it comes to arcade graphics it is not so much the cabinet that matters but the bezel glass art. (As you can see in the overlays created by @Orionsangel and @ArsInvictus.)
Having a very minimal arcade cabinet will allow for the biggest screen possible.
How do you feel about the insets being removed?
I’ll admit I had to open the old & new images in separate tabs to compare, because they both looked good and I didn’t know what you meant at first by “inset”
Does removing the inset let people more easily add control panel artwork (for example?) I don’t know anything about Photoshop scripts or automations like you mentioned, but is that a use for it? (Is Photoshop required?)
I don’t know enough about how removing the insets would help people customize, can you explain? So without the insets the cabinets look like they are missing those pieces (which is what makes me think maybe we are supposed to replace them?)
I really love the MAME cabinet graphic overall though the reflections on the bezel and the MAME logo reflection on the cabinet walls (and the slight tilt, the speakers…) gives it so much depth you don’t usually get on a regular PC monitor
Yes, I have continued working and I have achieved what I show in the screenshot, I have lowered the ball of the control lever, the cabinet has been widened, the speakers have gone, there are still things to polish but more or less I already have what I’m looking for.
I would not be affected by the truth.
Duimon Could you pass that cabinet? I think that’s what I’m going to do, I’m going to widen the cabinet to fill the whole screen, I think that’s my solution, but I need the cabinet straight.
