Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

I’ve never been a fan of visible controls because you may have actual controls right in front of them so it looks awkward. As for the speakers, they look nice but as you mention, may limit customization.

It was not the speakers I was asking about but the “inset”. If you compare this newest version to the previous one you’ll see that I removed both the speaker and control panel “inset”.

That is really what this graphic is.

The blue bars on the sides are the cabinet.

When I get done cleaning up the source I will release the graphics and presets. The straight side version uses the perforated metal bezel, not the one you have been using. I have the logos from the old straight sided version. I will attempt to do a few different versions, but it will complicate building the source. (Which will delay the release.)

woops, sorry about that. I see what you mean now.

The insets were something I came up with to set the cabinet apart from a real arcade cabinet. I wasn’t really trying to design an arcade cabinet, just a MAME cabinet. Real cabinets don’t have insets.

I just noticed that @akuma22 was adding a decoration and the inset limits the placement of something like that.

Looking at the two now I think I prefer the inset. I wasn’t intending these to be easily customizable. That graphic will come later.

For me that the controls are seen is just a matter of decoration, I do not give it importance but I like that they are seen gives it a more aesthetic touch from my point of view.

I will wait for you to launch it to continue working, that if I don’t get tired before and decide to use yours by default

This is exactly what I would hope for, maximum screen space for the content with bezel glass art from the actual cabs. I appreciate that is a hell of a task, so I would personally choose the current generic bezel / glass without the speakers and controls to maximise playability.

OK the source is all pretty.

I have uploaded the MAME, FB-Neo, and Arcade graphics and presets.

If you are planning on doing any customizing to anything other than color and text, I recommend starting with the source PSD. (i.e. MAME_CAB_NO_TILT.psd) it will allow you to hide the new perforated metal bezel.)

A simple guide to changing the text and cab/controls color in the others is a WIP.

Here are shots of the final FB-Neo…

I hesitate to say anything because patience seems to in short supply lately, but HSM and I have future plans for arcade features. Development on this will wait until WELL after the shader reaches version 1.0 and is in the repo.

For now, I have no further plans to do any arcade stuff. Please keep in mind that using existing overlay art with the shader is relatively easy to do, (By just changing the background image path.) so feel free to have fun with that while you wait.

Gib arcade features now, no wait. /s (if you don’t use reddit /s means sarcasm, this is meant to be a joke kids.)

Seems cool tbh, I’m still poking around at the new guest release (the code) before I start getting into the deep of it. My arcade stick hobby isn’t helping progress either XD (Should have my second stick finished early next month, so more free time maybe?)

In case anyone is curious about my current list…

  • Bandai WonderSwan
  • Amstrad GX4000
  • ColecoVision
  • Philips Videopac+ G7000
  • Sharp X1
  • Thomson TO8
  • Nintendo GBA SP
  • MAME SL MegaDuck

I would like to make this a fairly complete list of the remaining cores/systems. Feel free to post anything I have missed.

BTW. Still looking for high res arcade backgrounds for future development.

I am curious what would be the minimum graphics card in order to not get stuttering and low fps using the tilt version of the arcade and mame shader? My Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB cannot handle it. I have noticed also that with the advanced version of the HSM shader I cannot use either with max swapchain images set to 2 and have to set it to 3 for good performance.

@Duimon Thanks for the amazing arcade graphics! Looking forward to the future features.

Here are a few more systems to add to your list: Magnavox Odyssey 2, Mattel Intellivision, Texas Instruments TI-99/4A (MAME SL)

I have done the Intellivision and the Odessy2 is the same system as Philips Videopac+ G7000.

I will add the TI-99 to the list. Thanks!

I have an i7 6700K and Nvidia GTX 1070. I had some stuttering with a 1060.

@HyperspaceMadness has expressed interest in adding CRT-Geom curvature so 3D tilt will be less of a resource hog.

Honestly, I think my system just barely meets the needs of the Advanced stuff. That is why there is a Standard version. (Thankfully, I don’t need good emulation performance to develop graphics.)

I don’t get any stuttering though, unless I do something silly like internal resolution scaling.

Crt-geom curvature in guest advanced would be tight.

Awesome! And sorry about that. I swear I checked the repo first! I looked for Mattel instead of just Intellivision. lol. Didn’t realize Videopac+ and Odyssey2 had the same hardware. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah systems like the Intellivision were actually sold by different companies and branded with different names. So I just used “Intellivision”. Maybe I should rethink that, the Channel F was also sold by different companies.

Well, I already have what I wanted, a big screen, cabinet, visible controls and no stuttering because I don’t have the tilted screen (which I really didn’t like) I just have to do the vertical version and the final burn version.

also night mode

Those who tell you that they are basically addons come to mind

Family Disk System, Supergrafx, Nintendo 64 DD

and others

MSX, MSX2, Virtual boy, Neo geo pocket, Neo geo pocket color, Atari ST, Atari 800 o Atari XE

Awesome that you got it where you wanted it!

On the subject of tilt, I feel like vertical monitor games are the titles that actually work nice with tilt.

Yeah I think I’ve taken the FDS and N64DD off the list. They essentially sit under the normal system so wouldn’t be seen if I keep my graphics cohesive. (Which is one of my mission statements.)

Theses are both done.

The Atari 800 is basically the same system as the 5200 so I will probably not do that. (Unless I find it has an exclusive set of games.)

I don’t think there is core for the XE (Unless MAME does it well in SL.)

So that leaves the MSX 1 & 2, the Virtual boy and Atari ST. I’ll add them to the list.

the Atari 800 has a very different romset from the 5200, and the XE has a core, it’s the core that the 5200 uses, it’s the same core for the 5200, the 800 and the XE.

If you could make one of the 800 and the other of the XE I would be very grateful, the XE is an update of the 800 but they are different machines, I would love one of the XE because I had it as a child and it brings back very good memories.

The famicom disk system and the 64dd would add to what you already have, I still encourage myself to try something

You could also make one of the sharp twin famicom, it would be incredible and I think there is none of that system
