Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

I decided to spend some quality time with my PDP1 Spacewar! graphic.

I added the game controller. :grin:

When I was doing the R&D for this graphic, back in 2017, this was the most elegant of the many hand-crafted controllers I found.

Is it my imagination or did these hackers invent the computer mouse?

Some change in the shader has things looking a bit funky color-wise. I will have to dig in and re-tweak it.

Well, I’m happy, I love XE, I’ve just come from playing a few games and reliving good times, thank you Duimon forever :raised_hands: :raised_hands: :pray:

Some captures of the games that I had as a child with the XE, there are only three but I have a lot of affection for them and today I continue playing.

Final legacy, of strategy, the first war game I played in my life.

One on One Dr. J VS Larry bird from Electronic Arts, this one is mythical, I played two with my brother, I loved breaking the board.

Ballblazer from Lucasfilm Games, when I was little I didn’t know how to play this mix of Pong and soccer game, now I can and it’s very fun and addictive.

Tomorrow I will finally bring news regarding the Arcade, lately I have not had time to work on graphics, but tomorrow I will bring the next 6 and there will only be the last ones :+1: :+1: :+1:

That is really what this is all about, and why we are all here.

I am glad you’ve been able to relive some good memories. :grin:

Here’s a WIP on the Texas Instruments color monitor.

There was no chance I was going to be able to re-create the bezel like the original, and if I did somehow manage it, no place for a reflection. So I didn’t try. :grin: I just made it look good with the shader.

There is still a lot of work to be done but it looks good with the background.

More beautiful than real life!! :heart_eyes:

I really like this 80’s design. I would be satisfied with just the monitor, but this is very beautiful!

Well finally I bring you news of the arcade project, Bally Midway, Mitchell, Nichibutsu, Stern Electronics, PGM and TAD Corporation are ready.

It took me a long time but I don’t have a lot of time lately.

The TAD corporation only has a horizontal version as there are no vertical games.

Stern Electronics maybe I will change it, I am not at all convinced, or maybe I will make one more version.

I leave captures as always :+1:

The next batch is the last one, Kaneko, Tecmo, Tehkan, Universal, UPL and one that is added at the last minute, Williams.

Then it will only remain to organize, rename, test and launch it :smile: :+1:

Here is a shot of the final TI Color Monitor.

A lot has changed in the graphic, aside from all the new details I dove in pretty deep. IMHO the TI/994A is one of my best graphics, I wanted the monitor to measure up.

I also tweaked the bezel height in the preset so that, after rotating the reflection corners a bit, the angle of the inner and outer bezels are the same. (Or close. I may have to tweak the graphics a little to make it perfect.)

I like it a lot!! :grin:

Looks so cool with the monitor :star_struck: Do you actually setup MAME core for TI/994A to run TI Invaders? I managed to run Sharp X1 games but it seems like TI/994A is a nitpick one and alas there are too little information around on how to set it up :disappointed:

OK… one more shot. :innocent:

I did as I threatened and adjusted the graphic bezel so the corner angles were more matched. I also changed the drop shadows on the knobs.

These knobs stick out from the chassis a bit, so the built-in drop shadow just wasn’t working for me. I replaced them with a custom blend that looks a bit more ray-traced.

I will create the monitor presets and get them in the repo. I also noticed that we are missing a Day version of the normal Standard… I will create that as well. :grin:

Looking at this shot I think the drop shadows need a bit more work, I will tend to that before I commit them.

Yes I do. It is one of the more successful MAME machines. Aside from having to enable “game focus” to press some keyboard keys, controllers work OTB.

I have my ROMS in a “ti99_4a” folder with the MAME TI BIOS “ti99_4.zip, ti99_4a.zip, ti99_4ae.zip” in the folder with the ROMS.

Have you much experience/success with MAME SL? You need to have particular MAME core settings.

Edit: I replaced the above graphic with an updated version, after tweaking the knob shadows.

! ! About MAME Software Lists ! !

What I plan to try is to split the core DLL when I find a SL that needs a specific MAME version. This will provide a separate info file, and internal core name, so it can elegantly coexist with the current and not be overwritten in an update.

I will provide the cores in a core folder and a Readme that explains how to use them and what SL require each core.

I have yet to do this, and it can be a bit tricky, so wish me luck! :wink:

Apparently there is no need for Hex editing the Core DLL, contrary to what I have read. All that is really needed is to rename the DLL and create a modified info file. :grin:

This is good news!

The bios files were the culprit and they were missing plenty of files inside of the zip. I’ve placed with the healthy ones :smile: and voila!

On another happy note. With the Current MAME core and and updated cdimono1 BIOS. Philips CD-i is working.

This makes FM-Towns the only MAME system on my list that requires a custom version of the core!

I will be making a backup of the current core in case this changes.

Regarding FM-Towns:

You may want to revise your strategy and update your list. Many of the images require a “user” or “boot” disk that can be found in the MAME SL ROMs. These won’t work with an empty ZIP file.

@akuma22

Please update your current MAME core and test FM-Towns again. It is working for me!!! :exploding_head: :partying_face:

And Kyrandia has sound!!!

The last one is mame 0.232? It is the one that comes out but it does not work for me, it does not get to load the games.

Do you directly load the CHD? is the latest version of retroarch necessary?

1 Like

Yes the 0.232 version. I did not load the CHDs directly I used your method (The standard SL method.) except Kyrandia needs a user disk in the zip. Super Street Fighter II works with an empty zip because the hash.xml doesn’t list a user or boot disk in the floppy section.

I need to figure out what has changed because today I got both systems that needed a spacial core version to run on the current. If you are still having problems then I must have made some kind of change.

I can’t see anything though… my MAME.opt still shows just what is needed to be different…

mame_mouse_enable = "enabled"
mame_softlists_auto_media = "enabled"
mame_softlists_enable = "enabled"

everything else is still standard.

Something has changed though, I get sound in Kyrandia using the .220 core also.

Weird. I did double my system RAM from 32GB to 64GB but I don’t see what difference that should make to RA.

I am going to do a fresh install of RA for testing.

I have it just like you, I don’t know where the error can be.

BTW. I am using RA 1.9.1 also.
