Duimon - HSM Mega Bezel Graphics and Presets - Feedback and Updates

That is the retroarch that I use

So new clean Retroarch install. Only the current MAME core installed, the MAME.opt in the MAME config folder, and the hash XMLs in the system/mame/hash folder…

Nothing else changed at all.

FM-Towns runs. :exploding_head:

@akuma22 I don’t think this is it but, is fmtownshr.zip the only BIOS you have in your ROMs folder? I have read that fmtowns.zip causes problems, and should never be used.

I have everything as it should be, but it is evident that something is wrong, I will continue trying to see if I find the solution.

Duimon, could you share your hash folder and bios? It does not work for me whatever I do, I have the hash of version 232, the bios fmtowns.zip and fmtownshr.zip in the roms folder and nothing, I have tried everything, the closest I have been is when I have activated the boot A bios in the mame opt, but it goes until the fmtowns logo appears and there it remains without recognizing the game.

If someone manages to make fmtowns work, let them say so because it is impossible for me and I no longer know what to test, I have tried different versions of retroarch, I have even tried it on another pc and nothing.

@Duimon: Great work as always! The TI-99 / 4A looks incredible! I’m going to attempt to get it working with the latest mame core in Retroarch. Shouldn’t be too hard with a bit of luck. Looking forward to playing Parsec with voice, your graphic, and HSM!

Concerning the DOSBox update, they are failing to load for me. After a bit of research, I was wondering if this was the reason in the slang files (see below). I can’t find the reference png anywhere.

(In the ADV Guest Monitor)

LEDImage = “:/shaders/Duimon-Mega-Bezel/Graphics/DOSBox/DOSBox_Alt_LED.png”

(In the ADV Guest and STD Guest)

BackgroundImage = “:/shaders/Duimon-Mega-Bezel/Graphics/DOSBox/DOSBox_Alt.png”

Thank you for the heads up. The DOSBox presets are fixed.

I will be working on getting the TI with the Monitor in the repo in the next few minutes.

I’ve also been trying to run FM Towns after seeing your discussions here @Duimon and @akuma22

First thing first my attempts didn’t work.

Here I’ll try to cover all my workflow step by step in case you spot things that will help out each other.

STEP 1: I use Steam version of RetroArch v1.9.6 with Nightly update

RetroArch v1.9.6 Nightly Steam ver

STEP 2: I have MAME Current core version 0.232 installed

MAME Current core v0.232 MAME Current V0.232

STEP 3: I have fmtowns_cd.xml hash file (downloaded the corresponding version hash SL from https://www.progettosnaps.net/dats/MAME/ which is v0.232) and placed inside of mame hash folder, you can see the folder path and structure in the image

hash file location

STEP 4: Here you can see all the required files placed into place with detailed look inside of zip files. Ps.: I’ve also created actual dummy zip file but that didn’t change the result

…and the look of my game files before the chd conversion which is the same as fmtowns_cd.xml

STEP 5: MAME.opt file with the settings

First thing to do is to get a current version of the fmtownshr.zip, you are missing a couple of ROMs in the zip. Next is that it seems the new version of the core can’t find the CHD unless it is in a folder with the same name as the ROM (i.e. ssf2 < This used to be optional.)

If you turn logging on it will let you know what is wrong. (It will list the things it can’t find.)

Please keep trying. If we figure out that the current core doesn’t work but an old core does, I am planning on compiling a custom core version for FM-Towns.

But I need you to exhaust all possible fixes for the current core. Keep me posted.

TI/99 4A with the vintage monitor are in the repo.

While I was in there I noticed that all my monitor graphics were using the Top Layer Mirror wrap, which would show an extra LED if someone chose to make the monitor smaller. The PC-8801 was also using an outdated LED graphic.

All is better now.

It works, now if, first a folder called fmtownshr, the games are inside, in the case of the bubble bobble there would be two files, the Bubble Bobble.CHD and the bublbobl.zip, we create a folder called bublbobl and put the CHD inside, we load the zip and VOILA !!!

Thanks Duimon, and now with permission I’m going to test games to see if I have any surprises and update the list I made. :+1: :+1: :+1:

I thought, from your previous post showing your method, that you were already doing that. (Or I would have mentioned it.)

It seems that has been the problem with all the current core failings, since I replicated that method in the CD-i.

Well… now we know what has changed. It appears that previous cores would be lacking sound without this method also.

!! Good work testing this my friends. !!

Please do, it will save me some time later.

Can also confirm it works with Puyo Puyo and Super Steet Fighter 2.

For the record, these are the files should reside inside of fmtownshr.zip bios file. These files actually comes separately with fmtowns.zip and fmtownshr.zip so you can marge these files into one single zip file and name it fmtownshr and place inside your rom folder.

fmtownshr

Thanks a lot to both of you guys! :metal:

Actually the MAME 0.233 version of “fmtownshr.zip” contains everything. I recommend getting that version since I have read that the “fmtowns.zip” is not a BIOS clone and can cause problems.

TI Color Monitor is missing inside of TI-99_4A preset folder in the repo.

The results are largely satisfactory, the Chase HQ already works with the sound and is playable, the history of new zealand still has sound problems, mad stalker is still not supported and shadow of the beast 2 no longer has graphical problems although the screen is not complete and music is missing.

One thing I wanted to ask, the games with USER DISK to do, I can’t get prince of persia to work for me, it remains on the menu screen.

I get as far as this…

Then the language barrier keeps me from diagnosing the problem.

The hash doesn’t mention a user disk.

On a side note, and mostly irrelevant it seems. I managed to compile a custom MAME220 (0.220 custom) core. If it is ever needed it will use it’s own config folders etc.

Not quite efficient maybe but I use Google translate with camera funtion on my phone to get these Japanese error texts translated when I get stuck loading NEC PC 88/98 and Sharp X68k games. Usually it gets the help.

Roughly says “insert User Disk inside Drive 0 and press the Enter key”

It happens to me the same as you on that screen, it seems like I need a floppy disk to save or something.
