Frustrated with GUI changes - Is there anything I can do?

Hey all, I’ve got a Rpi2 running Lakka. It’s been working fantastically for many months. The only complaint I’ve had is the lack of certain emulators that the Rpi2 should be able to handle, including PPSSPP.

I saw that it (PPSSPP) had been added to the newest stable release, so I backed up my pi and upgraded my Lakka OS. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the entire GUI had changed! Previously, all of the emulators supported by the Rpi2 were running neatly across the screen, with the roms for each emulator listed in alphabetical order AS I HAD NAMED THE FILES. Now it seems that I must first scan the rom folders for the emulators and roms to show up on the GUI list. No big deal. I begin scanning rom folders.

I got a little irritable when not all of the emulators/roms showed up on the list. No LYNX, no Atari 2600, and a couple others. I found that I could individually load the roms if I searched through the files and manually loaded a rom, but this is a pain in the ass. Also, after the scanning, a large portion of my roms were not recognized (when lakka had no problem recognizing them in previous builds). Not only that, but the ones it did recognize HAD BEEN RENAMED. This sucks for me, because I like my rom names short and simple, easier for me to see and navigate through. Long story short, I’ve downgraded my Rpi2 to a version of Lakka that works the way I want it to. This is not the ideal solution.

Are there any settings I can get to that will help me set up the GUI the way I want with the newer builds? Specifically, I’d like to not have to scan my roms before they show up on the emulator/rom lists, and I’d like my roms to retain the filenames that I assigned to them. Also… I’d really like to be able toplay PSP games…

Thanks in advance!

You don’t have to scan anything. You can still use load content as always.

I’m aware, but that is not ideal (besides, I couldn’t even get HANDY to load any roms this route. It just black-screened me). I don’t want to have to dig around in the file system. I like the playlists, and I like the ease of use of previous builds. I guess I just don’t understand why Lakka has gone from a very easy to use OS to one that certainly looks prettier but is very clunky on the user end. If anyone has any idea as to how I can set up the newest stable release so it will load up the playlists without using the scan function, the same way it did in previous builds I’d be ridiculously grateful!!!

You’re talking about the GUI and then about how Lakka scans roms. There is nothing wrong about the GUI per se, however ROM scanning has been changed.

Lakka introduced the No-intro standard several releases ago (Read more here), meaning you have to conform your ROMs accordingly to naming convention and that they are of a good version (checksum match). I’ve asked Lakka about having an option to turn this off, asit may be off-putting to new users.

I would suggest you check out Clrmamepro and redump.org for dat-files to get a collection that’s proper.

Exactly. I actually like the new GUI… I’m just having issues with the ROM scanning. I’m not interested in having “proper” ROMS. I want the ones I have and already know Lakka can play (Some of which are heavily hacked games and translations). I saw another post here where someone had built a script to bypass the no-intro standard in order to get a working playlist for MAME ROMS. Would the same work-around work for every emulator? It looks a little complicated, but I can make my way around linux. It would probably just take me a bit of time and troubleshooting. However, I don’t want to jump head first into a project I’m not sure will work in the first place…

I’ve actually noticed that under the scanned roms section it lists by what I’m assuming is some sort of ID tag information from the file itself while under “history” it has roms listed by the actual file name. Not sure if this was intentional or not?

There are some other scripts around, like the ones in this thread (http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4733), that will just take all of the files in a directory and make a playlist out of them.

For Handy, if your ROMs are/were headerless, they were incompatible with the emulator until very recently.

Thank you. I was able to configure my own playlists using this: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g7z8m7nyagazkcb/AACt4J8xy5XeMJAIsYMrCQNMa?dl=0

I can play LYNX roms now, I’m not sure what changed, but I can’t get the scanner to give me playlists for either 2600 or LYNX roms. I think I can figure out how to force-make some though.

Edit: All figured out! Thanks for your help guys!
