This game is increadibly hard to play in this emulator core. And the reason isn’t problems with controls, that’s the fault of the games original programming. In this case it is because on real hardware, this game has shadows under your character to help you determine your landing point in this isometric 2d game. Is there a setting I am missing to get the shadow or is this just one of those bugs that was never known due to the obscurity of the game?
Are you sure there’s supposed to be a shadow? I don’t see one in this video, which seems to be recorded on hardware rather than emulated:
I also see a number of threads talking about how the game would be better if they had included a shadow for positioning: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=20088.0
I’m pretty sure it did, I had a copy of it and a genesis and it had like some sort of flicker shadow that was like a round circle. But I was also playing on a crt tv as well.
You sure that wasn’t some other isometric dungeon crawler adventure? Equinox perhaps? Because there are no shadows in Landstalker.
Our brains can play tricks on us sometimes, especially with our memory. But if you think it was the CRT that did it, feel free to try a CRT shader. I doubt you’ll notice any difference, but it might give you peace of mind.
i have look to several magazines from 90ies. no one shows images with character-shadows.

Maybe I was mistaking, but I was sure it had shadows. Oh well please disreguard unless you know how to hack the rom to add shadows.
That said I was not mistaking on game title, I definitely had landstalker. The save battery was damaged so it wouldn’t save, but it was playable even though the controls were crap.
Sounds like this is sorted but I’d like to throw in I just played through this on real hardware and was cursing the lack of a shadow the whole time–especially later in the game. It’s such an omission I can almost see how one might think it’s a bug.
