I’m wanting to replace the original boot splash screen with my own, how would I go about doing this? I don’t have Lakka set up at the moment and am not willing to do so unless I know how I can change the boot splash screen.

Why do you need to change the boot splash screen ? The Lakka berry logo is not enough beautiful for you ? 
If I am not mistaken, it should be here.
Last I remember it’s in the boot partition (not storage) for a pi, so you would have to read the SD card with it not running for easy access.
