¿How i can use the gpio pines in Raspberry?

Hello, i try to test lakka.tv with Raspberry Pi 2 using Gpio Pines and arcade buttons. I used Adafruit-retrogame with EmulationStation but with lakka this dont work…Someone can give me some help on how I can make it work?

Hello, is there a software to install to make those gpio emulate a joypad? Or they can just emulate a keyboard?

I think the software emulate a keyboard, i use this tutorial https://learn.adafruit.com/retro-gaming-with-raspberry-pi/buttons its, in the end middle of page.
