How to Install Lakka in the Mac OS Terminal

Hey guys, you guessed it, I’m a total noob. I followed the instructions on lakka.tv (I want to install Lakka to a PC ultimately) and I can’t seem to get it right in the mac os terminal. I saved the image to my downloads folder, i got my usb drive plugged in and everything. Now this is what it looks like so far:

der-fritz:~ thomasreitenbach$ sudo dd if=Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20160717204331-r21527-g4656d16.img of=/dev/disk1 dd: Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20160717204331-r21527-g4656d16.img: No such file or directory

Like I said, I’m fairly new to this stuff. I’m grateful for any help

I think the only thing you’re missing is to change the directory to your downloads folder.

cd downloads

Just be 100% sure it’s going onto the right drive. For example, on my MacBook Pro my flash drive is disk4, not disk1.

Thanks! I double checked the location of the flash drive. My Hard drive is disk0. Now I’m not sure about the command line I typed. On lakka.tv it says “$ sudo dd if=Lakka-*.img of=/dev/diskN” And what they get is:

And I what do I get if my file is under “Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20160717204331-r21527-g4656d16.img of=/dev/disk1 dd: Lakka-Generic.x86_64-devel-20160717204331-r21527-g4656d16.img”?

Okay, something worked. I changed the directory and typed the location of the .img and it said “resource busy”. Then I unmounted the one partition on the USB drive and repeated the dd step. I hit enter and nothing happens D;

Yeah if it says recourse busy it needs to be uncounted first, and It usually takes a minute or two for me before it says the transfer was complete.

I see. Tried it again, waited a couple of minutes and the transfer is complete. Now i unplugged the drive and plugged it into the PC, started it… and again, nothing. Well, it tried to boot but there’s no OS on the PC. I thought it’s going to boot right from the USB drive?!

You may have to tell it to boot from the USB. During the post screen there should be a key to press that will take you to a boot from menu where you can select the USB drive. Or just go in the bios and change the boot order. Just make USB the first option. If you change the boot order you’ll probably want to change it back after it’s loaded.
