How to run Amiga roms

The core has been updated with a lot of new features, please check it.

If you need to uae configuration file, please add

floppy0=/storage/roms/amiga/disk1.adf
floppy1=/storage/roms/amiga/disk2.adf

Thank you.

Amiga emulator doesn’t see game roms.

Hi, I use Lakka 2.3.2 on Raspberry Pi4. I’d like to use it for playing Amiga games. I have kickstart rom file, and some adf format files with games. I prepared game.uae file, which I use to run game. It looks like below:

use_gui=no
show_leds=true
chipmem_size=1
bogomem_size=4
fastmem_size=2
gfx_center_vertical=simple
gfx_center_horizontal=simple
gfx_width=646
gfx_height=552
sound_channels=mixed
kickstart_rom_file=/storage/system/kick.rom
nr_floppies=1
floppy0=/storage/ROMs/Amiga/Prince.adf
cpu_type=68000
cpu_speed=real
cpu_compatible=false
cpu_cycle_exact=false

When I run it, I can see the kickstart screen, but game doesn’t run. Adf file access path is correct, but I think there is some reason that kickstart doesn’t see this file in this location.

When I put adf file together with kick.rom in “system” folder, and change uea file like below, everything runs great.

floppy0=/storage/system/Prince.adf

What is the reason that it doesn’t works when files are on they default location?

Thanks for help.

It’s recommended to use WHDLoad games. Each game comes in a single LHA file. You load that and it “just works.” Just make sure you set the core option to emulate an A1200.

Thank you for help. Could you please send some detalis how to do it? I have all games in adf format. Is it possible to conver it for lha? Maybe there is some tutorial or decription? :blush:

Hello, just out of curiosity: in lakka the kickstart file name has to be specific? If so, what are the correct filenames? Thanks

Please check this documentation.

Stop preparing and using uae confs, as it is not at all necessary anymore, and it will conflict with core options.

Simply launch the ADF, or create a M3U for multiple ADFs, or place all of them in a single ZIP/7z if you don’t need to write hiscores (it extracts to temp and generates a M3U).

It appears to me you’re trying to run whdload installers for the games, not the games themselves. Those are also LHA files and this confuses a lot of people. What you need are the pre-installed whdload games that come as LHA files. I can’t link to those here since links to copyrighted ROMs aren’t allowed.

Please explain this behavior? I try to run LHA file on lakka, on PC with retroarch and get same result.

I just did in the previous post. The LHA file you got is not a whdload game. It’s a whdload installer for a game.

The file size should also tell you that those LHAs do not have any game data in them, therefore there is no way they could “just work”.

Tell me , is it to run a game or to use the whdload , like @RealNC said. Like i remember my past years in my amiga cocoon whdload was, and still alive. :slight_smile:

Every whdload game is a single lha file. You just load that and the game runs.

I also use lha files, they work just fine. The only thing to do is to change the model from 1200 to 600 if some games runs too fast, and example is buggy boy that runs way to fast with the 1200 and just fine with the a600 preset.

for exemple . i suppose for Big games liké Space Ace , or cdgames lha IS prefered . in thé other side .adf .dms… IS good for most of games. isn’t it?

Whdload games in LHA format is for all games, not just large ones. They load faster and usually have fixes like easy save games without having to bother with creating save floppies.

Even people with Amiga hardware use whdload. It’s not just good for emulation. It’s just good overall.
