How to save current state?

This seems quite a trivial issue, but I can’t see a “Save State” option in any of the core’s game Quick Menu (tried GBA, PSX, SNES and GBC).

I made sure the User Interface > Quick Menu > Show save/load state option is on. Is there anything else I need to enable / check to be able to save states from the menu - or maybe from a keypad shortcut?

Can you post a cell phone pic of your ‘quick menu’? It should just be there.

This is the entire menu I have. Favs is black because of the icon pack :man_shrugging:t3:

I also tried enabling “SaveRAM autosave” each 30s. No dice.

Rewind doesn’t do anything as well - bound to unused Right Shoulder button (how do I unbind?! Some games will use that, and I thought I could use a joypad combination omg)

Finally, how does the “auto save state” is supposed to work? The description of “makes a savestate at the end of retroarch’s runtime” is quite cryptic for a plain user. How would I trigger that?

I should also mention it seems I’m having some trouble even with in-game saves. I lost my progress on Metroid Fusion on mGBA and Castlevania for PS1. However, I just played, again, the last one for a while and even after reboots/shutdowns the in-game saves were there.
