I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with loading PSX games

I’ve tried to enter different search terms, but I still can’t wrap brain around what’s all going on. I’m new to this, so far lease bare with me.

I followed ETA Primes install video for the install. I don’t know if it’s legal to post here.
I downloaded the newest version of lakka to a thumbdrive, and then I boot from that on my Acer laptop. No issues there.

I have my roms saved on a different external hard drive. I plugged it in and most of my roms loaded. The ones that didn’t, I know what I did wrong. Not worried about that.

The few psx games I have, don’t show up at all. So, I did research and it appears I didn’t have the correct files.

I went here: http://www.lakka.tv/doc/PlayStation/ and grabbed a single game. So, there are 4 files that download. One is a bin and one is a cue.

I guess I don’t know what to do with the files to make them work. I’ve tried to make sense of the lakka documentation on this subject, but it’s just not clicking.

Is there any idiots guide or anything that can help me make sense of this?

Thank you.

Derrick

Each PSX game should consist of a folder with a .bin or .iso file (the large file) and a .cue file (the file used to load/play the .bin/.iso) in it. You need to load the .cue file to play the game.

You need the bios for PSX to be placed in /storage/system and to be renamed ALL lowercase (scph5501.bin for USA).

Thank you for the response!

How do I access storage/system? I’m pretty sure there is a document here on how to do it, but I couldn’t quite figure it out. I’ve got th Lakka OS on one thumbdrive and the games on my hard drive. The laptop I’m using is the same one(my only computer) I downloaded the OS/roms/etc. Do I need to access the storage/system from the windows side of my computer, or when I boot from the thumbdrive can I access it from the Lakka side? Eaà Sorry if these are really dumb questions. I was so excited once a majority of the rom games played. It we so easy. Then I got to the PlayStation stuff and that excitement quickly turned out not frustration.

Take a look here to access the file system.

So it looks like this is the portion that pertains to me. I’m running lakka from a thumbdrive and the plan for my roms is that they run from an external hard drive. Looks like all I need to do is put s couple roms on there and then the correct folders will be installed/accessible automatically after I plug it in with lakka running. Am I reading that correctly?

I’m starting from scratch again. I pulled all my roms from the hard drive and am starting fresh with lakka. I know the roms work. I scanned one too many times to try and get the psx stuff to work and I had multiple copies of every game. It got too confusing.

Ok,

I sort of have it working. I was able to play Tekken 2, but I’m fairly certain I didn’t go about it correctly. I have a tekken 2 file, that has the bin+cue files in it, along with the wrong bios file.

When I bring up Lakka, I can scan the playstation files, but when I go to “run” them they don’t work. Black screen most of the time. I’m pretty sure I read that the CD based games don’t scan like the ROM based ones do, so I don’t even know why I thought it’d work.

Anyhow, if I back up and go to Load Content>Start Directory>My 64G Thumbdrive> Tekken 2>Core>Playstation(Pcsx ReARMED), the game loads!

When it loads, it gives me an error that no bios was found, and that there will be glitches. It’s been over a decade since I played that game, but I didn’t notice anything. I got my butt kicked for about 45 min, and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

Now if I stop the game, I can scroll through all of the emulators at the top of the screen, and go to the Playstation icon. The game is there, and I can resume. If I quit the game, the game is still there, but I can’t resume. It just gives me a black screen.

I loaded 3-4 more games. All the same way, and they all had the same result. They would play under the Load Content function, but not from the Playstation rom icon. Does that make sense? Is there a way to fix that? I would like to not have to go through all of those steps each time I wont to play a PSX game. I was just excited that one finally loaded! There is light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Thank you for the help thus far!!

Right, well if you want to use Beetle PSX HW you need to have the correct bios, otherwise you’ll have problems with games not booting, glitches and such.

Forgot to mention that if you’ve been using the Dolphin core, it requires you to have ‘shared context’ (IIRC) enabled in Settings > Core, you should disable this setting when you want to run Beetle.

So, does that mean I’ll have to load the games the long way each time, or is it because I don’t have the correct bios loaded? I know for a fact I have the wrong one loaded. I was using scph1001. I got so excited when it loaded that I didn’t want to change anything. I know I need the scph5501, I just hadn’t found that one yet. I’ve only got like 5 games loaded, so changing out the bios is no big deal. I’m hoping it means I’ll be able to access the games as quickly as I can with the ROM games.

As far as dolphin core goes. I have no idea. I haven’t seen that anywhere. Time to do some more searching.

Thank you for your patience.

In terms of making the games show up via the scanner; I’ve had much better luck by deleting the .CUE file and renaming the .BIN file to .ISO. There’s no harm in doing this but you can back up the .CUE file if you have concerns. This applies specifically to PSX games.

Once you’ve added/renamed the .ISO file, make sure you scan the ROM directory again.

Finally; disregard the Dolphin stuff - it’s beta at the moment so you probably shouldn’t be using it. The Dolphin core emulates Gamecube and Wii games.
