Installing RC3 Candidate (PC X86 64bit)

I just downloaded the rc3 image. However, when I attempt to boot from the USB I placed the image on I can only - wait for live boot or hit tab. How do I update my current Lakka system to RC3?

Upon booting the image, I am not getting the normal “Run Installer” or “Run Live” options.

You can update from the interface.

But if you are using Lakka (OpenELEC version) you can’t update from the interface to Lakka (LibreELEC version), you need to make an installation.

I have the Lakka “Christmas” Release running on my PC. Once 2.0 comes out will I be able to upgrade to the new version from within the online updater?

We usually ask people to do a manual install when they upgrade from the old Christmas release. Of course you can try to put the .tar in the .update folder and see if it works (and it may work) but we don’t support it officially.

Last question on this - once 2.0 is released, if I download the image to a USB stick will it give me an “update” or “upgrade” option to install over the XMAS release?

We shouldn’t allow this for this reason: Lakka was using an MBR partition table, while Lakka 2.0 is using a GPT partition table. The update process can’t upgrade from MBR to GPT. So even if the upgrade would work from a user point of view, letting users run an hybrid system like this will complicate our maintainance work when fixing issues delcared in the tracker.

Will the new 2.0 release include all required BIOS files for most popular game systems? Or will I also need to bring those files along with my roms when I install version 2.0?

So, assuming that RC3 is using the GPT partition table, it would be possible to upgrade to 2.0 from the RC branch without issue? Or would it be wise to just wait for the official 2.0 release?

We can’t include BIOS files, it is copyrighted stuff.

You will be able to upgrade from any RC to 2.0.

Nice! Thank you very much.

I must be doing something wrong with the RC3 release. I am trying to install Lakka on my old PC laptop and I can’t seem to get the first boot menu where you can select “Run Installer” or “Run Live”.

For me, on first boot it just jumps straight into the Lakka Menu like I had picked Run Live. I was hoping to select “Run Installer” then I don’t need to have the USB drive anymore.

Any ideas? or is the functionality to install for a PC not available until the full 2.0 release?

By default, it boots Live mode. You should get this message instead of the boot menu

Wait for live session to start or press <TAB> for more options (installer)

There are only two options live or installer

Got it to work. Thanks gouchi

Had to hit tab (when the prompt came up) then type “installer”, then enter and got the standard installer.
