LRPS2 replacing PCSX2

I have a 9th gen I5, that’s not quite low end yet. Frameskip is still useful for Soul Calibur III.

How so ?

Your cpu is more than decent enough for ps2,ps3 emu i’d say.

But wouldn’t you rather play the original Arcade Fighting games (Mame) instead of the ported console version ?

Soul Edge instead of Soul Calipur :smiley: :ok_hand:

The graphics & sound were so MUCH better from many Arcade games compared to old console ports.

Games like Mortal Kombat series, Killer Instinc series, King Of Fighters, WAR GODS ← who still remembers that one LoL …

Not to mention the fact that ported games usually are the stripped versions !!
Movelist that are cut down , glitches / bugs (in a good way) that are fixed (killer instinct → Cinder, jago :yum:) … And list goes on…

Nah… gimme rather the original deal…

Chortles, TD

I’m not aware of a working version of SCIII on MAME but with only a few exceptions I usually play the arcade originals over ports unless I have some huge nostalgia for the port.

Some levels of SCIII slow down on my PC even at 1x resolution.

i updated to the latest version today. i am very glad to see the implementation of the software renderer and other very important tweaks. the whole thing is in a very good shape now i guess. I used an alpha version before (included in lakka 5.0) that was complely broken for me - it freezed the system on some games.
My Favorit PS2 Game Gradius V runs at fullspeed with good graphics on an older i7700 with iGPU. Other games struggle with speed but some are good playable now. Very Nice Guys!!!

I thought software was working in the old version. I know this because i’m still using it for PAL games (new core has issues with PAL frame rates).

as i said, i am coming from lakka 5.0. there it was quit unusable. now it works better. I am just glad that the core has improved.

i have a bug with the new version. On some game (i guess mainly PAL Games) are showing a black bar on the top of the screen in 4:3 Mode. Overlapping the HUD and Gamesceen. No clue what happends there. i use mainly PAL Games. games with said Black bar: Prince of persia Sand in Time, LOTR Return of the King, 007 Everything or nothing, Gods of War (all PAL). Games that working correctly: Gradius V, Godzilla Save the Earth, Out Run 2006 (all NTSC)

This seems still very young compared to PCSX2’s newest build, unless I’m misunderstanding. The project outline referenced in the OP mentions needing to manually set different options for different games (ex; different widescreen settings, different overclocks for uncapped framerates on certain games, etc).

This seems like a lot of work, whereas I thought the newest version of PCSX2 aimed to automatically take care of per-game settings of the entire PS2 library, unless I’m misunderstanding.

it includes the same database of per-game hacks as upstream.

Probably not the right place to post this but…

Just tried the new core with GT4, had very little luck on my setup:

Left everything default, also native res

D3D11: screen is all black unless I press Fast Forward (!?!?)

D3D12: graphic are all messed up other then few screens (tried to take screenshot but all I get is a black screen)

GLcore similar things

Vulkan seems to work (not perfect) but frame rate (native res) drops a lot

On pcsx2 I use this settings:

I run GT4 1080p wide screen and the framerate is rock solid.

Any suggestions?

That core hasn’t even been officially announced yet, to my knowledge. I’m guessing there is going to be plenty of work still to be done in the future. I know it’s exciting, but I would say hold off for a bit and keep checking to see how it develops.

edit Ok, I see it was announced, just today, on twitter… new RA 1.20 too. Ok, gotta go.

First of all, congrats and thanks to everyone involved with the new/revamped PS2 core.

I’m experiencing a problem with the core however in that well, it just doesn’t load for me. I don’t mean it crashes upon loading a game I mean if I try to manually load the core it fails to do so. Same thing happens when I try to load a game, obviously. Nothing happen. The only thing I get if I check with --verbose is this:

> [Error]: Failed to open libretro core
> [Error]: Error(s): The specified module cannot be found.

Guessing this is most likely due to some external dependency not being found. Maybe something with the OS version or even the gfx driver. I don’t know, it’s hard to say as those errors gives very little information.

The only thing I can think of is I’m on Win 8 (I know, I know, it’s old). And the standalone PCSX2 documentation does say the support for Windows 8 has been dropped at some point. So maybe the core doesn’t work with Win8 as well.

I can run the old LRPS2 core (last version was alpha 1.7.0 I think it was).

So…I don’t know. hunterk, do you know if the new core is known to be incompatible with Windows 8?

I haven’t had any game working with LRPS2 on Linux x86.

I looks like it is saying you don’t have the right core. Did you try the steps listed on the blog? Update your info files, update the required system files, and update the cores? You can do it all through the online updater if you haven’t.

Just tried and followed all the instructions: updated core info files, downloaded the core and the core system file through the downloader, put the bios in the bios folder. Just to make sure I also tried with a completely new 1.20.0 install/folder…Same error “The specified module could not be found”. Even though everything is there.

Searching online it looks this type of error mostly happened to some users with the Dolphin core (something related to some Visual Studio missing files) only I have those installed and I can run the dolphin core just fine. Which is why I’m wondering if it’s just related to the OS version.

Sorry that didn’t work for you.

I just get a Black Screen and Core/RA Crash
D3D11: screen is all black unless I press Fast Forward (!?!?)
I get exact same

Vulkan works but Games run Slow

You guys with the issues, are you using Intel integrated graphics?

Have to double check when I get home

But I know that on PCSX2 that Vulkan and Software Graphics don’t work

Tried the core for the first time (on Windows 10 x64) and I can’t get the rumble to work on any game with my 8bitdo controller. It always works fine in every other core that supports it like swanstation or mupen64. Any tips?

Nope. Nvidia card (with Nvidia driver obviously). The only two unusual things graphic card/driver related I noticed on my system is that the d3d11 and d3d12 drivers stopped working at some point for me while they worked before (if I try to set the gfx driver to either d3d11 or d3d12 it just crashes RA before even loading any content) starting at 1.11.0 though that was a long time ago. Might be related to this issue:

Glcore and Vulkan works well with one caveat regarding Vulkan is that with N64 cores using the parallel RDP it crashes for me. A few other users at least have reported the issue. As mentioned in that thread, might be gfx driver/card related.

In both cases it appears the issue only affect very few users/systems so understandably it’s harder to debug. Not sure if those issues are related to this problem.

If anyone else has Windows 8 installed please let me know in the thread whether you’re able to load the core or not.
