MagicHat's OrionsAngel Mega Bezel MAME Arcade Setup - Pack 6 Out

So we don’t have to get too OCD about getting the perfect aspect ratio.

Great discussion in here. I appreciate all the knowledge from everyone chiming in. So I was pretty on par with my general thoughts on the 2 methods as far as resizing and positioning things to these images. Those with the deeper knowledge of CRT screens would most likely prefer to see the true aspect ratios and not care much about a fatter bezel at top, bottom, or the sides while others might not even question it too much and would love to maximize their playing area and like a uniformed standard bezel thickness on all sides. Mine definitely fall under that one and I formed them with uniform bezel thickness for the most part… but not all of them. Many I still adjusted to make them thicker for different reasons. I’ll leave them where they are now because I know @hgoda90 is more or less on the other side of this with his. Options make the community better!

Yeah I am on the side of keep the 4:3 ratio and fit the rest of the area with the bezel. As I stated before I did have the same bezel size and change the aspect ratio but found I prefer the other way.

And if anybody wants to get the perfect, exact aspect ratio just use PAR in the Aspect Ratio type.

You can also look at the tube aspect which is separate from the screen aspect, but follows the screen aspect by default

Sorry for late reply. I was busy the last days.

Thank you for the fast fix  Your work is awesome!

Not sure if you noticed but I also repackaged the zip up as v2.5 and updated the main post with the info. I included these adjustments. But if you already downloaded the previous one, technically you really don’t have to redownload the entire zip again if you wanted to make the adjustments noted. however, I may have also tweaked a few game.params but didnt note them so you might want to just delete your current \RetroArch\shaders\Mega_Bezel_Packs\OrionsAngel_MagicHat_Arcade and get the new one in.

If you notice any other issues when launching games, please let me know. I appreciate the feedback!

I went the extra mile and spent the stupid amount of time involved in recording ~5 second in game video clips of all 193 games in the collection so far. Threw in some pretty killer cyber punkish style background music and basic fade in/out between each clip. I took the quicker/easier route though as far as the game footage and mostly went with each games demo clip most do when the game sits idle in promo mode. Definitely not as nice of a “game footage” preview like @Orionsangel does. But my main objective was more about showcasing each game’s cabinet + the mega bezel + the path I went with on bezel sizing etc. All games are in alphabetical order as well and uses my main google spreadsheet ordering.

What do you mean by that?

I have been working on a Github page that changes HEX and RGB to the proper settings for Mega Bezel and koko-aio. You can see what I am talking about over on my main topic.

The page is at https://hgoda90.github.io/Bezel-Color-Converter/

I put together a short version video clip this time using just still images of each of the games in the collection.

Lovely work to everyone involved! I have enjoyed using the overlays & shaders and the presets have really saved me a lot of time. Thanks to all

@MagicHat This is what I’ve been looking for for a very long time. Thank you so so much for putting this together.

here is my first contribution to this project. I found out by chance, that “1943kai” won’t load with an HSM reflection shader. There is only the overlay and a flat screen.

Keep up the great work.

I would have loved to skip over all that time and effort put into packaging it up like this if it was available to me as well. But that’s why I figured I go the extra mile and actually post it here in case others are looking for the same easy setup process to enjoy all of Orions work.

Reviewing this more I think you found an easter egg haha. The only version of 1943 so far that OrionsAngel has put out is The Battle of Midway. Looking at the various included .params files in the vertical directory of my pack, the ones that line up with that are the following red ones (1943.params as the main one and the others point to this one). The blue ones are clearly extra and line up with the other 1943 variations. Looks like I created these extras on my own and was looking to piggy back off the main 1943 The Battle of Midway image even though they were technically “different games”.

You discovered 2 incomplete .params files on my end with tweaking. I just adjusted them and will incude them in the next release but all you need to do in the mean time is adjust these.

Took my kids to an indoor trampoline park yesterday and came across this modern setup. Pretty nice!

You can tell it’s modern from all that RGB. :sunglasses:

I installed everything and followed the hyperspacemadness thread and then this thread. So both are installed, and all settings in retroarch 1.17 are like in the installation above.

When trying to load the multigame file, I get this error in retroarch (after clicking ‘load preset’:

"Failed to apply shader preset: multigame.slangp’

Nothing happens after this error.

Please help! I check all settings again and everything is the way it should be. I can run MAME games but no hyperspacemadness shader or orion’s angel bezel appears. The error above always occurs.

I have a GeForce GTX 1070 8GB (desktop pc) and latest NVIDIA drivers. I never have any problems in games so I don’t think this is the problem.

That usually means something is wrong with that specific shader, like the spelling doesn’t match the spelling in the preset, or it’s stored in a place where the preset is not looking, etc…
