Modded SweetFX, CRT shader (similar to DarkD3 Hardcore), works in D3D8

This is what I am using in Retroarch:

just unpack in main folder of Retroarch or in the folder with the game’s executable (ex: StarCraft II\Versions\Base26490)

This is what I am using for any other D3D 8 (Warcraft III), 9, 10, 11 game (milder CRT scan lines effect, no Gaussian blur):

Added Presharpen to SweetFX to make it look like DarkD3 Hardcore settings. You can disable CRT if you want, by editing SweetFX_settings.txt #define USE_ADVANCED_CRT 0 //[0 or 1] Advanced CRT : Simulates an old CRT TV display. Set gaussian blur along with it to get a halation effect

without: with:

Enjoy!

Nice. Thanks for sharing this.

Is there a reason why you use this instead of the built-in shader support?

You’re welcome!

I loved how the DarkD3 Hardcore effect was modifying the colors (tonemap, sepia … ) and replicated them exactly using SweetFX (Adding presharpen was really needed in order for the effect to be the same). I also loved how sharp everything looks.

Try applying the second SweetFX package to a D3D game and you’ll see how the colors are somehow improved (Maybe also disable CRT effect though - to be exactly as the DarkD3 Hardcore effect)

Ah, ok, so it’s a sharpness/color preference. Cool

When I’ve used SweetFX on other Windows games, I’ve really liked some of the presets with greater contrast, nice bloom effects, etc. I also liked being able to use the CRT shader on Borderlands 2, since I <3 scanlines (even when they’re not really appropriate…).

Yes  Sharpness/color preference

Presharpen and CRT add a lot of detail to any game. Looks great in Borderlands 2 too
