N64 games laggy

I have installed Lakka on a Raspberry pi3, everything seems to work good except N64 games, all the N64 games are laggy and some don’t display video. I tried changing the resolution to a lower setting but then when i play the game it crashes. I have Lakka running on a netbook with the same N64 ROMs working. Is there another way to get N64 games working without overclocking? it

I worked with this last night. The resolution that the pi 3 is able to play those games at is 320x240 and the graphics plugin you want to use varies by the game.

1: Open the rom you want 2: open the menu however you have it set to open. 3: options 4: change the resolution to 320x240 5: change the graphic plugin from auto to rice 6: close the emulator and reopen.(to avoid a lockup)

N64 emulation is a very difficult thing to undertake. Many games don’t work as expected and/or outright crash. I would refer to the mupen64plus (since that is the RetroArch core being used.) website for compatibility info of the various games. It’s not a complete or up to date list, but it will give you an idea of what you are getting into.

The Pi 3 still does not have enough oomph to emulate N64 games well. For better performance I suggest attempting to overclock with a better cooling solution (heatsinks at the very least).

The biggest issue I have with the N64 on Lakka is the inability to use almost any shader preset without killing the performance. The most basic of N64 games will lag with even something like crt-pi which is designed to be light on resources. Also, Goldeneye’s performance is horrible for some reason, but that’s not Lakka’s fault.

Try GLupeN64, it’s a massive improvement over mupen64plus-libretro on the RPi.

How to add it to the Lakka OS? Probably requires compiling, right?

Apparently it’s already added, just install the newest version of Lakka and you’re all set. No adding your own cores required.

Yep, just update Lakka via the menu option. N64 games work almost 100% now.

You’ll also need to delete your retroarch.cfg file after updating due to some changes; there are instructions for that here:

I wouldn’t say 100% but at least I can play a handful of the classics with minor glitches.
