New sonkun crt guest advanced hd presets thread

The Mega Bezel is compatible with every Retroarch core that can use the Vulkan or glcore video driver. On Windows this means all cores.

Okay, then I’ll try bsnes hd beta on glcore, because for some reason the program froze on bsnes hd beta (Vulcan render), but on bsnes everything works fine. Thanks for your answer and your shaders are great!!

If you use a SMOOTH-ADV preset, along with increased Mode 7 resolutions, it will freeze. Much like using increased internal resolution on hardware rendered cores.

Depending on your GPU (VRAM amount specifically.) the defaults should be fine. If not you can try lowering the various Mode 7 resolutions or just use a less demanding preset.

Ok here’s round 6 of me tweaking in the lab on the hunt for a new look. I admit last sample pack I went overboard on the saturation, my aim is still a more saturated look but I toned it down for this one. Let’s see what you guys think.

All pics are composite, all games are Megadrive:

Download the sample pack here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/mgrvkezijeavhj2/sonkun-crt-guest-advanced-preset-samples-part-vi-08-13-2024.zip/file

Copy the presets of choice and paste them directly into the shaders folder not shaders slang. Be sure to update your slang shaders within RetroArch before using this pack if you don’t already have guest.r’s latest shader pack.

Edit: The composite presets may look a little better by disabling the “ntsc filtering gamma correction” setting. I think I put it up to 0.7 or something, it might be better with that defaulted.

Bro is playing all the aftermarket games. :astonished:

Haha had to switch things up a bit. There’s a new Megadrive game being developed and composed by Yuzo Koshiro himself called Earthion:

I can already imagine playing that with guest.r’s shader.

Just trying out other Mega Drive home brew games, didn’t realize there were a bunch of new games still being made for this system out there and all of them are perfect for the guest ntsc shader:

I’ll probably do some more tweaking on the 4k presets but for the most part I think I’ll end up going with this look for my next release pack. I haven’t recieved any criticism yet from you guys so I’m guessing this pack is the one lol.

I think recently (1-2 years?) an engine, called Scorpion, was developed to create games for Amiga, Mega Drive and neo-geo. That’s why there is an increase of homebrews for those systems lately!

if i have a monitor which native res is 1920 x 1200 will these presets still work?

They should? The 1080p presets should technically still look good on your monitor. Try it out and see.

I follow this, there are a lot of new interesting projects for speccy,c64,amiga,md and so on:

You generally get more vertical resolution and less “black spaces” on left and right edges of the display. Scanlines should look nicer etc. It’s a better retro experience compared with 1920x1080, so is 2440x1600…

The only downside is more computed pixels, which makes shader a bit slower.

That hud for sotn looks different than what I remember, is this the saturn version or a hack?

It’s a Mega Drive demake. All previous shots shown are all Mega Drive homebrew games. That game Old Towers caught me by surprise, it’s a fun little fast arcade style type of game.

does having to disable contrast affects in some way the colors of the preset on linux?

I’m not sure if it has a specific affect on Linux but I disabled contrast in general because I felt I was getting a better looking image without it. Did something specif happen on your setup?

no, i was asking about it because as well this is something that can affect much of the presets that uses grade in linux, i;m yet to try yours in my monitor so i that was why i was asking just to see if i had to kept that in consideration

Ah ok. I think going forward that setting will remain at default, maybe somewhere in the future I’ll try using that setting again.

as well something else i forgot to ask was, can your presests be used alongside the most recent version of guest r?

Yup. In fact they’re based directly off his latest update. You don’t have to manually install it either all you have to do is update your slang shaders within RetroArch and you’re good to go.
