ODROID XU4 resolution and stuttering issues on some TVs

I have an ODROID XU4 which works very well on my ASUS 27" monitor at native 1080p. PlayStation games run fullspeed with audio and video in sync.

However, if I try to use it on my other TV (Dynex 32" 720p), then a couple strange things happen:

  1. The TV info says the signal is 1080i (but the display looks fine)
  2. Emulators will stutter when running. If I try to view the FPS, it will appear and disappear sometimes, and sometimes say 30 FPS and sometimes say 60 FPS

The issue sounds a lot like the one in this thread: http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5125 However, none of the solutions seem to work.

This TV is pretty old (2008) and I have seen other issues with HDMI (for example had overscan issues on Ouya, cuts out with some Nvidia Zotac boards; but Xbox 360, and Raspberry Pi with Lakka work fine).

I tried the EDID fix mentioned here to force 720p: https://github.com/libretro/Lakka/wiki/Odroid-XU3,XU4 but that does not seem to take affect at all (tried on both TVs).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks - the front end also estimates 30 Hz. However, it still appears to drop many frames when I set the refresh rate to 30 Hz.

How can I set it to 720p, 60 Hz?

When you change the boot.ini, be sure to add the variable in the boot line. If not, it will have no effect.
