Problems loading roms from PS1, MAME and NEOGEO

Hi everybody,

i’ve already installed lakka on my PC ( ASRock ConRoe945G-DVI, Pentium D 3.7Gh, 1GB RAM, Intel Media Accelerator 950), and it works perfectly. I can load and play videogames from NES, SNES and GENESIS with absolute normality (well, not absolute, because I have to load manually some roms from GENESIS, but I can put up with it). The problems becomes when I try to load and play with PS1, MAME and NEOGEO videogames. When I load the directory, Lakka doesn’t detect the videogames and doesn’t put them on their respective place on the playlist. Moreover, I try to execute the roms manually using the corresponent core, and it does’t works either. I’m using files with .zip format for PS1, MAME and NEOGEO, I don’t decompress them. I download the roms from [REDACTED].

In conclusion, I can’t play with PS1, MAME and NEOGEO roms. Could you help me please??

Greetings and thanks.

PD: N64 games run really slowly. Could it happens because of the poor hardware of the PC?? Where can I download roms that works well in Lakka?? Can I Know if a rom is compatible with Lakka??

Scanning only picks up ROMs from specific sets. PS1 games have to be from the redump set in bin/cue format to be detected.

MAME/NeoGeo require ROMs from exactly the same ROMset as the version of MAME that you’re using. If that’s MAME2003, you need the v0.078 ROMset.

Yes, poor performance with N64 could be a result of weak hardware. Try the GlupeN64 core if you haven’t already.

Hello,

Thank you for your comments.

First, say that I had already read the information from lakka.tv/doc/ROMs, but I don’t know how to put some tecnical concepts on practice. Could you help me please?

I would to know:

1- Could you explain me how to do the BIN+CUE?? Have I to put a bin file (or files) whith the respective cue file on the directory?

2- How can i know the romSet of my roms from MAME and NeoGeo??

Thank you guys

In both cases, it’s generally easier to just look for what you need online instead of trying to convert what you have to work the desired core. That is, it’s very unlikely that whatever random MAME ROMs you found online will match up with a core. You can use ClrMAMEPro to try and convert them back to a previous set, but you need to have the correct DAT for the sets, as well. It’s a big hassle. Likewise, just search for the name of the PS1 game you’re looking for with ‘bin cue’ added to the search and you should be able to find what you need.

Also, I don’t think you’ll be able to get full speed with PS1 games with your Pentium D.

To get started with MAME on Lakka, I suggest:

  1. Locate a copy of the “MAME 2003 Reference Set” for your ROMs, CHDs, and Samples (it’s easy to find this ROM set with a google search)
  2. Use the pre-generated MAME 2003 playlist for Lakka in this post: https://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5923&p=42127&viewfull=1#post42127

Once you can get MAME 2003 running with a pre-generated playlist there are ways of customizing it, or you may find that the pre-made playlist is adequate for your needs already.

Hello again,

first, thank you for your comments, i’m really grateful.

I found the correct version of MAME games (v0.078), and Lakka detect them automaticly. Now i can play MAME games downloads from that place, thank you .

Some cuestions:

1- For NEO-GEO games is the same?? Do I have to look for the correct version of the roms, and in this case, which version is the correct??Which core is used to execute NEO-GEO games from Lakka??

2- I have problems to play with PS1 games. Lakka doesn’t detect the roms, and i can’t execute manually either. I’ve downloaded the game in BIN/CUE format (is a zip with .bin and .cue files inside). I copy de files inside lakka, and i don’t know how to exexute. Can you help me please with PS1 games and explain me on detail how to do it?

3- I’ve read on internet something about some bios of the emulators. Do I have to download this bios and copy the file into any directory of lakka? Have already lakka this bios inside? Better forget this??

Thanks everybody😉

I can only advise on two of your questions.

  1. neo geo games work well with MAME 2003. You can use the NAME 0.78 non merged set roms for this. Make sure you are using a complete reference set or that you manually copy neogeo.zip to your lakka set up along with the game roms.

  2. Have you seen the information about BIOS files and how to install the correct ones that is included in the Lanka docs? That is a good resource: http://www.lakka.tv/doc/BIOSes/
