[Question] Would Lakka Run on this?

Hey Guys!,

How are you?. First of all thanks for reading this, let me tell you my story: Some time ago, I bought a small present for my parents that wanted to mostly watch youtube videos on their LCD TV. The present was a “Noganet Smart TV Box”. It doesn’t do crap, honestly, its a piece of wasted hardware. It comes with an Android image (probably some wacked 4.x) that is full of bugs and 90% of the things you try to do it will fail miserably. Right now it is piling up dust on a corner, and I came across Lakka and tthink It can be salvaged onto a decent retro-gaming console  thanks to this project.

I don’t have physical access to it right now but I know for sure it has an ARM Cortex-A9 processor and probably a Mali-400 GPU, which is kinda standard for most of this “Smart TV Box”, I noticed that lakka has a Stable “cubieboard2” image which basically runs on ARM Cortex-A7 and a Mali-400 too…

So… do you guys think it will run? Any further info or tips I could gather to check for compatibility before just trying?.

Thanks!

You can certainly try it, but it would need to have an accessible/unlocked bootloader, etc., which many android boards don’t have.

Thanks for the tip, I forgot about that (my Samsung phone has that same issue and cant get Cyanogen in there). I guess I’ll have to open it up and look up the board number to dig further, completely forgot about that detail, thanks!.

hunterk is right, you need to know if your TV has an u-boot branch somewhere, or another bootloader.

You will certainly need a specific kernel, and specific gpu blobs too.

Try to find a linux distro that support this TV, and if you find one, then you can port Lakka to it.
