Rasberry Pi 3

Question for devs: Have you guys received a Raspberry Pi 3 yet?

I’ve ordered one already, can’t wait to try Lakka on it. The performance upgrades should be pretty noticeable!

Everyone else: let’s speculate as to how much better the Pi3 will run games!

I’m hoping PSP will be stable (or at least not require as many hacks to get going). Might even see some more N64 titles working smoothly.

There is already an image to test

Thanks to Kivutar

Is the new image 64 bit or 32 bit?

It’s 32bit for now. (We have a lot of arm dynarec that are 32bit only)

I will test the image also today or tomorrow. I already had a retropie 3.6 img to test this morning. You can find basic results here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ISHhOsHy64 (not rooting for the competition or anything :)) Looking forward to seeing lakka on rpi2

Do you guys think it will be powerful enough for Reicast?

I can’t wait to see your results. Have you tried running PSP games on the Pi2? This is something I’ve been doing. It mostly works, but I just need a bit more CPU/GPU power! And then the Pi3 comes along…

Could be. I’ve seen Reicast running on the Pi2.

From that video, it looks like the graphics side of things is working pretty well. Sound is quite glitchy!

pine64 has better gpu

pine64 gets you better gpu n ddr3 ram…n more ram n gigabit port…

Yeah i hope theres a build for the PINE A64.

I dont see much point trying RPi 3 out with Lakka until x64 it supported as there’ll be no performance gains over using just a RPi2 sadly

More testresults can be found here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLShJegxSSfSJg59b_AIj4phMFrsK7x8Kl I tried PSP but only with DBZ Tenkaichi Tag en Tekken 6. DBZ is very smooth but Tekken6 unplayable. It seems the framerate is ok but the game is just slowmotion.

gz.

also ordered one, im just hopeful some n64 games can run smooth

There aren’t any working RPI3 images for Lakka at the time of writing. They’re currently testing new builds on RPI3, but it will take some time. Have patience.

And odroid C2??

It will be supported?

The hardkernel folks have been very good about sending boards to kivutar et al for support, so yeah, probably.

There will be - 64bit tech improves performance for 32bit instructions as well. And the extra 300mhz of CPU power will go a long way.

My Pi3 finally arrived today so I’ll get testing in t-6 hours!

Update: looks like some people have got Reicast running really nicely thanks to the Pi3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-fGaEERtPM

I tried this version https://twitter.com/koreus_/status/706592756718817280?lang=en There is the Lakka menu but I can’t scan my games…

Finally got my Pi3!

I had the same problem. You can still choose “Load Content” and manually pick ROMs.

thoughts so far: some performance improvements for PSP, but games that were unplayable before are still unplayable. Games that were slightly slow before will be 100%. Same applies for a handful of slow PSX games too - 100% now.

can’t get Reicast to work so no comments for Dreamcast emulation yet.

We’ll have to hold out for an official release.
