Raspberry Pi running in Network issues in Vista

I can’t seem to get Lakka on my pi 3 to show up in networks or use it through explorer on Vista. Now I’m getting an error when I run it through explorer.

I am the administrator so I don’t know what the problem is. Before any of this I enabled SAMBA.

I also ran it through the ip address and I arrived to the same conclusion.

Edit: I also took down the firewall and it still did not work. My firewall would have told me it was problem if there was one.

Retropie had no issues and I don’t really like retropie. Any suggestions would be nice. Just kind of stuck at the moment.

Looks like something’s wrong with your Samba configuration. I’m not an expert (or even a Lakka user), but I’d wager this is going to require going over Samba conf files.

If your RetroPie is working fine, check its Samba files and replicate them in your Lakka install.

If you can access Lakka system command line, what is the output of ?

systemctl status smbd.service nmbd.service

Thank you.

To get the command line how do I do that on raspberry pi? Every time I quit I get into a reboot.

Did you try what is written in the documentation Lakka system command line ?

I also tried to reinstall before using this program and to no success. So what’sthe next step?

Something tells me it’s probably your Vista settings moreso than the Lakka settings (Lakka ain’t that complicated, certainly not as complicated as friggin’ Retropie).

Just got to ask the basic questions:

  1. Pi 3, wired or wireless?
  2. How big is the micro SD card you’re installing Lakka to?
  3. ROMs/ISOs loaded on a different drive (USB) or on the SD card?
  4. Using what kind of controller?
  5. Generate a log: Since you can reach Putty, run “retroarch -v” and keep Putty open, and then try to Samba into it through Windows Vista Explorer and see if there are any error messages generated in the log.
  6. How to generate a log: http://www.lakka.tv/doc/Troubleshooting-Lakka/. For Putty, click the Networking Icon in the upper left part of the windows (those two PCs linked together), and you should have the option to copy all of the text in the Putty window to a clipboard.
  7. What kind/brand/type of micro SD card are you using? (yes, a corrupted card will prevent you from Samba’ing into the unit).

1)Wireless. I’ve tried wired without a different result. It can be both. 2)3)7) 64 GB. I have no roms/isos currently on the sd card. I’ve tried two of the same cards that were new. No different result. They are legit Sandisk extreme bought off amazon. Micro SD.

  1. Using a SNES Mayflash that comes up as “N64 Mayflash” but in the input it says “HuiJia USB GamePad” controller usb connected to a legit snes controller. I can map the inputs without a problem. It was not an issue with Retropie. I also have a wireless keyboard I bought from china with a touchpad. 5)Putty error log to clipboard: login as: root [email protected]’s password: ###########################################

When I samba through lakka to windows through explorer it gives me (Nothing shows up on computer networks).

Maybe it’s my computer. On Retropie I didn’t enter a password and when I tried to make a password (for retropie) vista didn’t let me. Is that part of the issue. Let me know when you can.

EDIT: Does my computer need wifi to connect to lakka (I don’t think so but I’d thought I’d ask) because I don’t have wifi currently on my computer. I just have it through ethernet. It’s through my router so that doesn’t make sense.

Another edit: Also Retropie doesn’t share anymore. Very strange. This is the first time I booted it off a card in awhile. I also called my internet provider and shut off the firewall briefly and it did not seem to fix the issue. Retropie used to run flawlessly. Any ideas?

Get back to me whenever you can. Thanks.

It shows it exists.

Not troubleshooting Retropie. You’re on your own there. Seeing it’s built on top of its own flavor of Linux OS (Debian), you’re going to have to ask them.

As far as Lakka, I’m assuming you enabled Samba and SSH on the Lakka menu, right? What IP address does it show on the Information -> Network Information menu of Lakka on the Pi 3? The fact that you can use Putty and SSH into it tells me it’s your PC/Vista. If it was truly Lakka doing it, you wouldn’t be able to do anything at all. The fact that you’re using Vista also tells me you need to update to Win10 since I know Microsoft cut Vista support and didn’t implement the Linux kernel files into any OS behind Win10.

Wait a minute…PPTP? Are you using a network bridge???

Yes and yes.

Yes I am.

Just to let you know retropie was working I have the exact same files as before I switched to lakka. It’s the exact same card as well (for retropie not lakka). I personally don’t know what happened.

Got any other PCs with a different OS that can see the Pi 3 on the network?

No I do not unfortunately.

I have a feeling you’re SOL with that bridge in place. Lakka ain’t supposed to be PPTP (unless you enabled it in the network settings, but I sure as hell don’t remember seeing anything to that effect). But I use Win10. What do I know? :man_shrugging:

You could try using the IP address of Lakka in the Explorer window (i.e. \192.168.x.x) and see if it that works.

I did that. GUESS WHAT I’M SOL! Well at least I tried. lol. A few days I’ll never get back. I’ll upgrade.

GUESS WHAT!? I found a solution. From this forum: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=178964

With this software:

Glad all you needed was an FTP client software package. WinSCP is a good one also (I use it with Recalbox and Batocera).
