Recommended Hardware?

Hey there,

Considering moving on from my Wii as my defacto emulator, but I’m having trouble deciding which hardware to go with. Obviously, a PC is going to the be the fastest, but I’d like to keep it a little (or lot) cheaper than that. Right now, it looks like my options are the Pi 2 or Odroid C1+. Which do you recommend? The Odroid looks like it’s faster, but the issues with vsync and lack of detection worry me. The Pi 2 isn’t quite as fast, but it’s well supported and I can also use Retropie if Lakka isn’t my cup of tea.

I’d need it to support the following systems at full speed:

SNES (assumedly SNES9X Next) GBA PS1

Thanks!

I can’t answer your question if Pi 2 or Odroid C1+ is better… I hope other people have more experience in that area. But i run Lakka on my old laptop which has a t7800 intel processor and 3GB of RAM. I can guaranty that, if you have the same or better specs, the emulators you requested will run at full speed.

Your observations are pretty spot on. The Odroid C1 is a little bit faster, but the Raspberry Pi is more robust with better community support. I can’t tell you which one to buy, because neither are clearly better than the other, both have their pros and cons. I will say though that I personally went with the Raspberry Pi 2 and that it can run all of the systems you mentioned at full speed. Especially if you get some heatsinks and overclock it.

Hi, the RPi2 will have some slowdowns on some snes games with snes9x-next (try the intro of Chrono Trigger, when the spaceship appears with a special effect)

The C1 is way faster, but have a tiling issue in the hdmi kernel module.

Thanks for your replies folks. Honestly, I think I may hold off at this point. The Odroid issues kinda put me off from buying it, and while the Pi 2 looks good, I want something that has no problem emulating every SNES at bare minimum.

Whats the max limit for your hardware budget?

Depending on your budget and where you live, an option to consider is the Compute Stick by Intel… It’s more expensive than the 2 options, but it’s almost plug and play as it comes.

And the hardware is reasonably faster than the rPi2

Hey guys, I just discovered Lakka the other day and love the idea. Eventually I plan on making an awesome emulation set up. But I was wondering, could I use an original Xbox to load it up with Lakka? It’s basically a PC, it would be a fun little project and kill some time. thx
