Recommended PC specs for the most GPU demanding shaders? (Buying a new pc)

Hey  I really have no space for any CRTs anymore and would like to build a perfect emulation station. (A small size pc).

Main goals are as good as possible looking: nes, snes, neo geo / arcade etc… maybe all the way up to ps1.

The latest CRT-royale kurozumi shader seems demanding but I have no idea “how” demanding it really is.

Could someone please recommend a good GPU & CPU?

Would a high spec i3 CPU be enough or do I need to get a i5? And is there any pros or cons to the amd cards vs nvidia?

From what I remember mame and other emus usually doesn’t need more than i3 cpus but maybe retroarch can use more than 2 cores ?

I would be super happy if anyone could she’d some light on what I need in terms of spec for the best looking shades for these classic systems

Best regards

I use CRT-Royale Kurozumi Edition on all of my 8 bits / 16 bits cores (mainly Nestopia and Bsnes-mercury Balanced, and even PSX for 2D games) and it works flawlessly, but I have a pretty High-end computer (Core i5 3570K and GeForce GTX 980) ; it will very probably work on way lesser-end GPUs though (not Intel Integrated HD3000, I tried and it’s not smooth).

Hi  that’s indeed a high end desktop that is. A little bit on the pricey side though and I can’t make it fit in a itx box either :(. But thanks either way for the input :D.

I think CRT-Royale should work fine on a GTX 750 Ti ou GTX 960, but someone should confirm.

CPU doesn’t really matter for shaders. They’re all GPU-bound. If you want to run at 4K, it’s going to require a much stronger GPU than 1080p.

From what I can see 1080p will be enough for me… really looks awesome!!!

Do you run it at 1080p BTW? What’s your setup in hardware if I may ask?

Heh, my hardware is bad. 720p monitor and Intel HD3000 gfx, for the most part. I have 1080p and a Radeon 270 at work.

oh  but do you get fullspeed on the radeon 270 at work? 1080p.

Yeah, I think it’s close, though. I would consider that a bare minimum if you’re planning to use royale, and you’d probably be better off aiming a bit higher.

I have the lowest model alienware alpha i3 from last year with 4gb of ram. It plays dolphin games at full speed with texture packs and has no issues with CRT-royale kurozumi. Everyting is stock and I use it with a hyperspin/rlauncher/retroarch setup. I got it just as an emulation machine. I output hdmi to a 1080p TV. I could not be happier.

You can get these now for like $300 USD on ebay.

I have not tried cemu yet.

Also an Odroid Xu4 would fit your needs if your only going up to ps1.

Cool! That’s actually a great suggestion. … i checked the beefier alpha machine from this year and even that one is quite affordable new from Dell. … The have Dell shops nearby so I might even be able to pick one up over the desk here in Japan. … awesome!

out of curiosity… what kind of GPU would be recomended for 4k?

I can’t really make a recommendation, since I don’t actually have any experience with GPUs that can get full speed on crt-royale at 4K, but I would assume you’d need ~4x the power of a radeon 270.

The gtx 750 ti looks very nice price wise but I wonder if it will be enough for perfect crt-royale ?
