Renaming MAME/NEO GEO roms

Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

So I have NeoGeo and MAME games working in Lakka no problem. I had to generate my playlist files manually using the methods described in this thread http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4733

Problem is, the roms for each respective system are their “MAME” names such as, 1942a.zip 5clownsp.zip etc etc Is there a way I can automatically change the display name in the playlist to a more human readable name but retain the original ROM file names?

CURRENT

/storage/roms/MAME1/1942a.zip 1942a.zip /tmp/cores/mame078_libretro.so DETECT 000005|CRC MAME.lpl

GOAL

/storage/roms/MAME1/1942a.zip 1942 (Revision A) /tmp/cores/mame078_libretro.so DETECT 000005|CRC MAME.lpl

I tried a few tools here and there from the HyperSpin community but nothing seems to stick. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you have access to a Windows machine to do the scanning, I think this autohotkey script should get you the pretty names from a matching DAT file: http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3599&p=32348&viewfull=1#post32348

Oohh, this looks like the sort of thing that I’m after, thank you!

hi…how did you get mame to work with mame core or mame 2014 core? i already have the neogeo.zip in my rom directory…when i load the ROM (.7z) with mame core or mame 2014 core…all i get is black screen and return to main menu…so, i extracted the 7z content and create a .zip file…yet same result with mame/mame2014 core (black screen flashes and i go back to main menu)…help? lol

“You need ROMs from the ROMset that matches the core. For mame2003, that’s v078, for mame2010, it’s v0139, for mame2014, it’s v0157. For fba, it’s either v0.2.97.30 or v0.2.97.36, depending on whether you’re using fb_alpha_libretro or fba_libretro. So, look for exactly those ROMsets.” is this still true?

yes, it’s still true.

Anyone have any clue if the .149 romset will work with any of the cores mentioned above. Or how to make them work?

Many but not all of the ROMs from that set should work mame2010 and/or FBA. If you have access to a Windows machine, the clrmamepro utility can downgrade a complete set to any older set as long as you have the proper DATs.
